SCT League Semi-Final

Last week The High School 1st XV took on Newpark Comprehensive School in the semi-final of the league.  Both sides fought hard for every point with The High School taking the lead at half-time.  Despite a fine performance the match ultimately did not go our way.  We look forward to the next round of matches for the team in the Spring when the Vinnie Murray Cup competition begins.

Dublin Fire Brigade Charity Match

Last week The High School  presented Dublin Fire Brigade with over twenty personalised rugby balls and water bottles in support of their new rugby team ahead of their charity game at Donnybrook Stadium last weekend against the Dáil and Seanad XV.  The match was to raise awareness of the importance of mental health in the workplace and in aid of Suicide Or Survive.

Irish Squash Junior Open

Congratulations to Scott Gillanders who represented Ireland at the recent Irish Squash Junior Open last weekend where he reached the semi-final. We congratulate him on this fine achievement and wish him every success in future competitions.

Form 2 Bake Sale

Last week pupils from Form 3 held an International Bake Sale to raise money for the Simon Community.  As an International Bake Sale we had food from places such as Belgium, Italy, France, and America.  There was great interest in the event and pupils thoroughly enjoyed sampling what was on offer.  In the end we raised €526 for this very worthwhile charity.

Autumn Term Examinations

This week Form 1, 2, and 5 pupils at The High School completed their Autumn term examinations.  Ever since teachers have been busy marking scripts and writing reports.  Parents can expect reports to be delivered in the post before Christmas.  We wish our pupils every success in this process.

Form 4 Night Hike

While it is nice to be able to see where you are walking, sometimes it's even nicer to not be able to
see what’s standing in front of you in order to see an ocean of lights below you with tiny flickering dots
dancing about in the distance.  That was the view of Dublin and its surrounding suburbs that greeted us at Fairy Castle at the highest point of the Ticknock hiking trail on the Gaisce night hike that took place on Thursday 22 November.

We managed to reach Fairy Castle (more pile of rocks than castle) with a minimal number of people tripping up but the real achievement was
coming back down in one piece.

HSD Rugby International

Over the last couple of weekends High School Mathematics teacher, Ms Deacon represented Ireland on the Women's rugby team, playing firstly against the USA at home and then England at Twickenham.  Pupils and past pupils from The High School travelled to see both games, to offer support and cheer on the Ireland team.  Ms Deacon is currently coaching rugby at The High School
and is an inspiration to us all.

Christmas Trees

You can tell it is Christmas time when the scouts begin selling their trees. Many of our current and past pupils are involved with the 31st Rathfarnham Scouts who provide beautiful fresh Christmas trees to many families in the area each year. The trees are on sale at the War Memorial Hall, Rathfarnham from 9.00 am - 9.00 pm daily.  And if you live within a two-mile radius from the Memorial Hall, the scouts will happily deliver the tree on foot!  Trees start at €35 and the price increases by €10 per size all the way up to €70.
