The High School Weekly Newsletter No Images? Click here Vol 24 No 22 08 Mar 2019 Form 2 Ski TripPupils from Form 2 enjoyed an amazing trip to Andorra during half term. We took an early morning flight and then had a very long bus ride to our hotel. Before we knew it we were fitting on our ski boots, skis, helmets, and poles. The hotel food was the best it has ever been on a ski trip. We were exhausted every night yet we always managed to get to bed really late. Getting up early became more of a struggle as the week went on. The skiing was so enjoyable. Some of us began slowly but by the end of the four days we had all learned something new - pupils and teachers alike. There was not one of us who didn't fall at some point. Each night there was a planned group activity like going to the cinema or enjoying a visit to a
luxury spa. We'd gather together in the hotel lobby, compete at pool, play table football, or pass a mini rugby ball around. We all definitely made at least one new friend. The awards on the last night were extremely funny. The prizes included lip-balm, fizzy sweets, and a wooden spoon. We could not have had a better time so in the end we were all a little sad but happy to come home. Interschools Music Competition SuccessOn Saturday 2 March The High School Orchestra competed in the Form 1 Hockey TourPupils from Form 1 enjoyed an amazing hockey tour last weekend with an overnight stay in Cork. We played two great matches losing the first but winning the second. In the evening we all went swimming in the hotel followed by an enjoyable trip to the cinema. The next morning we went zip-lining and then settled down for the long bus journey home. It was a well organised and action-packed trip. Thanks are due to our teachers for organizing this great tour. Great Reads Award CeremonyPupils from The High School were among the crowd of pupils, librarians, and teachers from fourteen of the participating schools who travelled to Foxrock to attend the third annual Great Reads Awards (GRA) ceremony. There they met pupils from other schools and some interesting children's authors as well as friends and partners of the GRA, the School Library Association, public libraries, bookshops, and book publishers. They were especially excited to see four of the shortlisted writers in attendance: M A Bennett (S.T.A.G.S), Emma Quigley (Bank), Padraig Kenny (Tin) and Kelly McCaughrain (Flying Tips for Flightless Birds). The event was hosted by author and storyteller Dave Rudden - photographed here with pupils
from The High School. There was much laughter and a great atmosphere throughout which delighted all gathered at this very special event. We are already looking forward to next year's awards Art Competition WinnerCongratualtions to Anna Hoey who won the HSD Student Journal art competition.
