MESSAGES

    A message from Damien Laforest

The countdown is on for Training Day on Sunday 15th September. We will be undertaking training on lifting gear inspections, maintenance and standards by Ranger. We will also be undertaking Precast training facilitated by Tower Crane Training Australia covering selection of equipment, lifting panels and panel documentation. A letter issued via Employment Hero will be sent covering all the details of the day so please look out for it in the coming days.

1st October will mark Reds Global’s 10-year anniversary and as celebration of this milestone we are referencing this achievement in our logo’s, PPE and design aspects around the business. Dave Wilson and Dinko Birkic were the first employees that will hit the 10-year mark. To think how much we have achieved in the first 10 years…....what will the next 10 years bring?

It is incredibly sad news with the passing of Glenn Powell from Red Radio Solutions. Glenn and Casey-Lee have taken care of Reds Global for years and most people in Reds would have come across Glenn at some stage attending to our communications. We include our Employee Assistance Program at the bottom of each newsletter to remind everyone that there is confidential support, so I encourage everyone, if in need, use it. There are always other services like Lifeline or Beyond Blue that you can use if you prefer.

I had the pleasure to be in attendance for the commissioning of crane 1 at Central Courtyard project for FDC at Macquarie Park recently. It was great to see the team in action despite the elements against us, but what stood out was the fantastic people we have in this business and how well we work together. I am always looking for feedback and ways to improve our business so as I make my way around the sites please share with me your thoughts and opinions to make our business better.

Lastly and most importantly, YOU are the face of Reds Global. Keep safe, make smart choices and represent our company with pride #FirstChoice

    Cheers.

HEALTH AND SAFETY - HEIGHTS RESCUE TRAINING

This was held on the 19th and 20th of August, Reds Global rigging teams completed a refresher course in rescue at heights. This was a great opportunity to conduct some emergency scenario training and also sharpen up on rescue skills.

    HEALTH AND SAFETY

In recent months there have been 3 incidents on sites where Reds Global operate that have involved damage to neighbouring properties/buildings.

    Causes of the incidents:

    • Narrow space to manoeuvre the loads to the lay down areas.
    • Lack of visibility of the load in proximity to the neighbouring buildings due to the height/position of the load and operator visibility.
    • Lack of planning of the lift/last minute lifting as the day closes.
    • Pouring concrete with a kibble close to structures instead of using other means, such as line pump or pumping concrete into a wheelbarrow.
    • Lack of communication between the operator and dogman. Lessons that must be implemented by all Reds Global Crane Crews
    • You MUST follow the controls outlined in your SWMS. Your dogging and rigging SWMS include “Identify mobile plant, services, structures, and obstructions and maintain safe clearances during load lifting/shifting” What does this mean? If you cannot maintain safe clearances around buildings, plant, equipment etc. then do not proceed with the lift.
    • You MUST maintain safe clearances. If safe clearances cannot be assessed then the lift does not happen until safe clearances can be assessed or an alternate lay down area or lifting method is chosen. Assess safe clearances by completing a dry run to establish hook position and load clearances.
    • You MUST ensure lifts are not rushed, remember if you lift it you own it! The builder or other contractors do not determine what is lifted or control the lift. This in on you!
    • You MUST report all incidents and near misses. All incidents and near misses must be reported to Reds Global immediately. First points of contact are James Moriarty, Ben Abas or Michael Louis. If unavailable, contact the Reds Office.

CHARLIE TEO FOUNDATION - "Funding brain cancer research"

It was a privilege to spend time with incredible people and be apart of such a good cause.

Founded by a rebel with a cause, Charlie Teo Foundation is all about disruptive thinking, about funding brilliant, original minds who are not afraid to push boundaries and think well outside the box.

Reds Global depot staff took on a weight loss challenge back in February / March. A total weight of 32.7kg was lost amongst the team over a period of 6 weeks. Billy was the standout winner and took home the winning $2,000 with an amazing 12.9kg loss. Well done Billy!

    HEALTH AND WELL BEING

In today’s environment of hustle and bustle unfortunately it’s our health that suffers. We live in an era of drive throughs, Uber Eats and unhealthily processed foods. We need a natural solution to get the critical nutrition into our bodies.

When we eat, we fuel our bodies with energy, and our bodies burn that energy to function. But it’s vital not to let your mouth write cheques that your body can’t cash. Balancing your energy intake and expenditure will help your body become an asset, not a liability, so that it supports you physically, mentally and emotionally for the long term.

There is no one-size-fits-all, and finding the best way to consume the highest quality of calories is a personal journey. Get proper advice, try different things, and listen to your body. You don’t know what you don’t know, but aim for balance and a whole-life approach rather than rigid, extreme programmes that aren’t sustainable.

Most importantly, enjoy your food – it’s meant to be pleasurable, not a source of added stress!
