Tenders open - mental health lead site funding: low intensity services

Tenders are invited for low intensity mental health services, with a total funding pool of $500,000 available.

The services to be delivered are a pilot of the following peer-based community support initiatives in the South Eastern Melbourne PHN catchment:

1. A telephone and email based helpline

This activity will:

  • be staffed by people with lived experience with a mental health condition (peer workers), and will offer support and referral information to people affected by mental health problems. Information about the helpline will be widely publicised within community-based health services.
  • enable health services and community institutions to engage individuals who are in need of support, information or coaching, without needing a more formal, mental health intervention.

2. Peer training, education and support

This activity will:

  • provide a peer training and education program, led by peers.
  • provide people affected by mental health issues with an opportunity to participate in face-to-face sessions and learn about mental health recovery from peers trained in the education program.
  • aim to improve people's social and emotional well-being and help them learn about mental illness, mental health and recovery, develop confidence in connections with others and create support networks.

3. Peer online forum

This activity will:

  • provide people affected by mental health issues with access to a peer online forum.
  • be moderated by peer facilitators.

4. Website portal and digital resources

This activity will:

  • involve the establishment of a portal to an existing website and the development of resources to support self-help and connect people with peers; this may include peer videos, insights and strategies into self-management, information and resources to assist people to learn and engage with supports in their community.
