Colorado College Becomes Carbon Neutral
In 2009, Colorado College set a goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2020, and they have done just that. They are the first higher education institution to reach this achievement in the Rocky Mountain region, and the eighth higher education institution to become carbon neutral in the United States. Becoming carbon neutral is no easy feat. To reach this accomplishment, Colorado College embarked on numerous different initiatives over the past decade to help them accomplish their goal. These initiatives included working with Colorado Springs Utilities in partnership to meet their goals, creating "high-performance energy design guidelines" for new and renovated buildings on their campus, and much
more. Colorado College also created a Carbon Neutral page on their Office of Sustainability website, where you can learn more. The Denver Post, The Hill, Colorado Public Radio, and many other media outlets also covered this major achievement. Congratulations to Colorado College on becoming Carbon Neutral!
