REDS GLOBAL NEWSLETTEREDITION 20 - October and November 2017
MESSAGESA WORD FROM JASON REDMAN
Hello Team,
Great to be penning a note to you all.
Safety begins with how you look after yourself. I often visit sites and I am surprised at how gratified I am with our team. There are still a few areas I believe we need to work on such as tidiness of our equipment, ourselves and our work areas: - It is part and parcel of being a team member of Reds Global to provide that extra 10%. If you walk past a kibble not washed up, wash it. If you have already washed out the kibble make sure the area around it is clean. The kibble should always be prepped prior to use. It should be lubricated with diesel ready for concrete. Do not wait until it is
filthy.
- Take the chains off the cranes every evening. Weather is unpredictable, it is important to consider weather events. The chains hook block can and will move around and cause damage.
- Crew crib areas and lunch sheds need to be kept tidy and in a presentable condition. It is the responsibility of Reds Global team members on site to maintain the areas but, also ensure they are
cleaned on completion of the job. It has been decided that the cost of cleaning the next site shed left in a poor condition will be deducted from the wages of those persons who used the site shed.
Some of you may already be aware of a medical issue with a team member from site. After departing site one afternoon he suffered a heart blockage. We are thankful for the efforts of a lady passing by informing site that there was a man lying on the ground. This prompted the site to call the ambulance. He is back at home now and is expected to make a full recovery.
This situation urges me to remind you that it is your responsibility as part of the Reds Global team to take care of your fellow work mates. Check on them. Ask them if they are ok. I also want you to be reminded that your health is your wealth and that alcohol, drugs and bad food is not the way to go. Run your body clean.
At present we are experiencing a boom in the industry. it is paramount to consider there comes a point when work slows down. I encourage my friends and family to seek financial planning advice for the future if they haven't done so already. It is important to have a plan, factor in the 'what if'. For example: 'what if I get sick', 'what if work slows down dramatically', 'what if I have to take on full time care of a loved one' etc.
I have been reminded of this reality and it prompted me to write to you about my personal experience with my mother and when I commenced in the industry. There was a boom in 88 and it then died. There was no work in QLD and NSW. Luckily, I was able to move and take work as a labourer. Please ensure that you purchase only what you can afford and always have a back up plan.
All the best to all.
A WORD FROM GLEN PEARS Hello Team,
2017 has seen many improvements to the Somersby premises. The upgrading to the safety of the roads, carpark with line marking and signage has made it much easier for the larger trailers and heavy vehicles to use the complex along with the many deliveries arriving on a daily basis.
Improved drainage along with the road widening and installation of traffic barriers will enable much safer traffic movements during the hours of darkness and inclement weather and greatly help keep the premises less water logged. The entrance on Wisemans Ferry Road is undergoing a makeover with new signage and landscaping planned. There are three forklifts and a mobile crane operating most days and traffic management is a priority and constant effort is required by all to safely control the many daily traffic movements.
Security is a major concern for any business in this day and age and Reds Global has recently undertaken a comprehensive security upgrade of the Somersby premises. Safety is a priority and all efforts will be used to encourage safe work practices on site and at Somersby. Please remember, rushing, frustration, fatigue, distraction and complacency are all factors that lead to injury.
There have been a number of men that have undertaken further skills training by obtaining more high risk certifications and this may enable them to be placed on sites where rigging duties or other skill levels are required. All persons are encouraged to further their skill levels and please do not hesitate to contact the office for advice on any certification pertaining to the industry.
Reds Global encourages any contribution to help improve safety issues so please contact the office with feedback as there can be matters that someone thinks requires attention.
All the best.
A WORD FROM THE SAFETY TEAM Greetings from Team Safety,
Its been great going out to site and seeing team Reds Global in action working hard, working safe and achieving targets. The new orange PPE looks exceptional, just a reminder sleeves should be rolled down especially as we move into the sun burning season. Remember to stay hydrated through those warm days. Should you require gloves or safety glasses please contact Rachel and they will be delivered as soon as possible.
Important Note
As our eyes and ears in the field weekly reporting is incredibly important. It is crucial that it is completed on time and is accurate. There is no excuse for untagged or out of date gear being used on site. Set your calendars, get ready, the safety training date is planned for Sunday, 25th February 2018 covering everything from risk management, high risk lifts and incident reviews from 2017. We will be asking for more ideas in the new year regarding what training would help you do your role better at Reds Global. Stay safe, stay cool on those hot days and see you soon out on site. Thanks James L and James M

REDS GLOBAL UPDATESHi Team,
These last 2 months have been full on at Reds Global. There has been lots of prep work for upcoming projects, farewells to some of our favourites and some new arrivals.
Firstly, it is with great sadness that we farewell Abbie Sydenham and Glen Pears. These team members have made a huge impact at Reds Global and it will not be the same without them. We wish you both all the best for the future and we want you to know the door is always open. Thank you for all you have contributed to the team.
The holiday break is just around the corner. Please ensure you get all paperwork into payroll before you go on leave. This will greatly help payroll run smoothly over the break. If you haven't submitted a leave form you should do so ASAP. All paperwork should go to admin@redsglobal.com. Corey has been doing payroll for the last 7 months and is still the best contact for all your payroll queries.
As some of you may be aware there has been a change of roles in the office at Somersby. It fantastic to see Dave Brown back from illness. He has now begun his role in the sales team. Dave made an epic contribution in his previous role as Operations Manager. Neil Hodgen is now the Operations Manager with the assistance of our Maintenance Controller Bernard Lott.
If you are having any maintenance issues with your crane please call Bernard Lott 0488 049 298 or myself 0430 168 875 and we can organise for a tech to be sent to site if needed. The Port Macquarie Triathlon will be held in May next year. The office crew are really looking forward to it. We have a team and some individuals going in the event. It would be so amazing if we could get a team together from site or even some individuals partaking in the event. I think it will be an awesome team building exercise. We can give each other updates on training progress and support each other in the big event. Please follow the below link to register. Reds Global will provide your outfits. Please let me know if you register.
WORK SAFELY AT HEIGHTS TRAINING
There were 2 courses conducted during the months of October and November for Working at Heights.
There was a refresher course held on site at Meriton, Lidcombe for the crew that has already gone through the training. Thank you to Meriton for allowing the training to take place on site. The other was a complete course held in the yard at Somersby. The structure used at Somersby was created on site and approved for training purposes by an engineer.
CONGRATULATIONS BEN ABAS Congratulations to Ben and his family on the birth of their second born Jibryle.
Glen has been filling in for Ben whilst he took a short break. Thank you Glen.
Ben is back at work in the hot seat now. Welcome back buddy.
MOVE TO LACE UP BOOTS
There are some sites that require lace up boots to be worn due to site conditions and rules. It has been decided to gradually move to lace up boots for all sites to keep up with client requests.
Please ensure the next time you purchase boots you consider this change and ensure that you get lace ups. This will happen over some time so don't worry if you have just purchased new boots and they are not lace up. Just ensure you make the switch with your next order. It would be greatly appreciated if you could spread the word to all team members.
