Welcome to the first Premium newsletter for 2016 – our Editor Katherine Ziesing and the ADM team look forward to another big year reporting the news in the Defence realm. With both a White Paper expected imminently and an election later in the year, it will no doubt be busy with announcements on major Defence acquisitions also expected.

Our annual Top 40 Defence Contractors/Top 20 Defence SMEs survey has hit the streets in our Dec/Jan edition as we see defence industry in Australia continuing to grow.

Some Christmas/New Year announcements have included the acquisition of two Gulfstream G550 aircraft to enhance the ADF's ISR capability and the expected purchase of a further three F-model Chinooks.

Cobham Aviation Services and AMSA are close to bringing the new Challenger SAR aircraft into service, providing a much-needed jet capability for the safety authority, and the US Navy has certified the latest Baseline of the Aegis combat system.

We also take a look at the military potential for unmanned cargo delivery as well research being conducted in Tasmania to reduce the noise effects of both surface vessels and submarines.

As you settle into the new year catch up on the latest defence news via LinkedIn, Twitter and facebook,
