BCLA to host symposium at the ABDO conference
BCLA will host a contact lens and anterior eye symposium at the ABDO conference in Manchester.

ABDO is to be joined at its conference by the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA), who will be running a specialist contact lens and anterior eye symposium on Sunday 20 September 2015. An array of global speakers and specialists from the world of contact lenses and the anterior eye will be presenting subject areas that are amongst those at the top of the agenda for contact lens practitioners.

If you are a CLO or trainee CLO wanting to promote successful healthy contact lens wear, or a DO who is interested in getting the most out of promoting contact lenses within your business, this is the event is for you.

The BCLA agenda at a glance (11 CET points applied for):

  • Contact lens comfort: are we there yet?, Dr Christine Purslow
  • The mighty mites, Sarah Farrant
  • Myopia control, Dr Nicola Logan
  • Is this keratoconus: What do I do now?, Katie Harrop
  • Lens update for CLOs and returning opticians, Andy Sanders
  • Why is my eye red? Interactive quiz, Caroline Christie

Myopia management is a subject that has been and will be in the industry headlines for some time to come, can you afford not to have an update in what some have called the ‘Myopia time-bomb’? ‘Myopia control’ is the BCLA Keynote Lecture to be delivered by Dr Nicola Logan, senior lecturer in optometry at Aston University, a convenor of the Myopia Consortium UK and a global authority on myopia management.

Raise valuable funds for Vision Aid Overseas by taking part in a 10K run through Addis Ababa.

It's not too late to join the Vision Aid Overseas team for this year's Great Ethiopian Run. The race is a 10K run through Ethiopia's capital on Sunday 22 November. Addis Ababa is known as Africa's highest city as it is over 2000 metres above sea level, making this more of a challenge than many other 10k runs.

There's already 35 runners in the team, why not join them for a fantastic six-day Ethiopian experience? You can read here about why Ruth Davies, an optometrist from Bristol, has decided to run for Vision Aid Overseas in 2015.

This is going to be an exciting event for our 30th anniversary and VAO would love you to join them. Your support will help Vision Aid Overseas to fight poverty and transform lives by providing vital eye examinations and spectacles in developing countries.
