Transition Update Professional Services Project Flinders University has been embarking on a formal organisational restructure process, following feedback from across the University that showed a clear appetite for change. The implementation of the restructure has two components – a simplification of our academic structure into six new Colleges and a realignment of professional support services. The new Colleges are now successfully operating and ongoing organisational changes in professional support services are well under way. The first three areas to be redesigned in line with the principles of the Professional Services Project - People and Culture, Finance and Procurement Services, and Information and Digital Services – are well progressed in implementing the changes outlined in the decisions made in July. Feedback on the proposals for changes to the Integrity, Governance and Risk area, the Library, Building and Properties, and Flinders Living has been received. The feedback has been thoughtful and extensive and is currently receiving significant consideration prior to a decision. It is expected that decisions on these areas will be made and communicated to staff around the middle of October. Change proposals were released last week for the remaining areas of focus for the Professional Services Project: Leadership and Operations Support, Office of Communication and Engagement, Office of Graduate Research, PVC International and the International Centre, PVC Learning, Teaching and Innovation, Research Development and Support, Student Administration Services and Flinders Connect and Student Recruitment. Thank you to all of you who joined the Vice Chancellor’s Townhall update on the PSP on 29 September 2017. Details on the change proposals can be found on The 2025 Agenda – Achieving our vision webpage. Placement Educator Workshop The College of Nursing and Health Sciences in September supported the annual Foundation Placement Educator Training workshop at the Tonsley campus for health professionals planning to supervise students in placements. There were 58 registrations at this year’s workshop with participants from metropolitan Adelaide, rural South Australia and interstate. The popular two-day workshop has been facilitated by Flinders University for over fifteen years and was recognised in 2015 with a Faculty of Medicine, Nursing & Allied Health Executive Dean’s Teaching Excellence Award. The team associated with developing and delivering the training include Dr Stacie Attrill (Speech Pathology), Amanda Wray (Nutrition & Dietetics) and, most recently, Ali Dymmott (Occupational Therapy). The workshop aims are to support health practitioners to participate in and enhance practice education, contributing to quality learning outcomes of health professional students. Training for placement educators is essential to ensure they have the capacity, skills and confidence to provide positive learning experiences and competency development for student. Feedback from these workshops, gathered over the past four years, indicates that participants have highly valued the collaborative and practical nature of their learning, and leave armed with a ‘toolkit’ of strategies and confidence to work positively with students on placement. The workshop is run annually. It is being developed into an online module to allow for greater flexibility of delivery in the future. Synergy will be distributed monthly.
