Open Evening - A Wonderful Success!

On Wednesday last we opened our doors at The High School to the public and invited those with an interest to wander our corridors, meet our pupils and teachers, and sample the wonderful variety of life at the school.  We wandered the corridors as new parents and looked with delight into the Science laboratory where we saw a group of young people gathered around an exciting experiment.  We peeked into the Home Economics room and saw the pupils and teachers there whisking and mixing, filling the entire building with the delicious aroma of baking.  Our ears were enchanted by the rising harmonies and melodies echoing from the Music Centre as the choir charmed a beguiled audience, while the delights of the Art Department provided enough visual wonder to make even the least capable of us wish that we could be pupils again.

Ecology Trip

On Friday 16 September, Form 6 Biology pupils went on our Ecology field trip to Portrane Beach.  Ecology is a big part of our Biology course. We spent the day identifying and recording animals and plants beside the sea before returning to the school.  It was an educational and enjoyable day for everyone.

Classics Theatre Visit

Last Wednesday, Mr McCaughey and Mr Milofsky took Form 5 and 6
Classics pupils to a production of Virgil’s ‘Aeneid’, a play about the only survivors of the destruction of Troy, in the Smock Alley Theatre.  Jack McKenna, among others, was in attendance. The play was an incredibly unique and well-performed take on the source material. After the play ended, we stayed behind for a chat with the cast and crew, which was really informative.

Form 5 Play Preparations

Form 5 pupils have begun preparations for this year's Senior Play 'Rock of Ages', a rock/jukebox musical,  built around classic rock songs from the 1980s, especially from the famous glam metal bands of that decade like Journey,
Bon Jovi and Pat Benatar amongst others.  Performances will take place 17-19 November, inclusive.

Form 1 Hockey Blitz

On Wednesday 21 September The High School Form 1 pupils played against Mount Temple in an exciting hockey blitz that lasted over an hour.  It was a great afternoon, with High School winning or drawing all our matches.
