This National Mentoring Month, we've heard from veteran pair Shaila & Annie; Mentors in Chief Gati & Judith; and now Claire Nolan, a first-time mentor. The creative's path is full of firsts. Claire and her mentee, Cass Guinto, found that the next step in their creative journeys was joining Girls Write Now. Claire's now ready to give back, sharing what she's gained in her first foray as a mentor, and a few of the tips that helped her get to where she is today.

The Space Between Men: An Evening of Poetry with Mia S. Willis

Friday, Jan. 31, 6-7:15 PM ET, Virtual

In their full-length poetry debut, Mia S. Willis looks to familial history, rituals of faith, and the natural world to explore how the intersecting cultures of Blackness and queerness relate to each other. Join them as they read a selection of poems from "the space between men" and share writing prompts based on the African American poetry forms that appear in the collection.

Required for Poetry Journey participants.

The Poetry Society of New York is thrilled to announce the launch of our annual Youth Poetry Contest—a celebration of creativity, talent, and the transformative power of poetry. If you're a writer under 18 living in New York State, this is your moment to take the stage, raise your voice, and shine. Prizes include $300 for first place, $200 for second, and $100 for third. Additionally, all three winners will be published by Milk Press and be invited to perform on the Youth Stage at New York City Poetry Festival.
