It's life's little irony that someone as pale as I am loves the beach as much as I do. Then, a few short weeks later, I will be heading out to Nebraska with Rob for my 3rd trip to Solo Nationals. Maybe one of these years, I'll actually race out there! As I'm busy with my travels, Susquehanna Region too has a lot of exciting things happening! So... if you thought this season was ending in a few weeks, I wouldn't put your racing gear away just yet. Rallycross is having a bonus event on September 22nd. We secured a new venue at the York Expo center, and are planning an event for October 27th. This isn't racing, but I've also secured a venue for Tire Rack Street Survival for November 3rd. I look forward to seeing everyone at our last Farm Show event of the season. I will have just driven 20+ hours straight back from Nebraska, so if you find me sleeping at the registration tent, just let me be. Keep it Classy Susquehanna - Melissa Mauro Note from the RE Man. It’s August, but it’s feeling a little bit like February planning time all over again with all the additional events being scheduled! Road Rally, Autocross at a new venue (non-points), a bonus RallyCross event, our first Tire Rack Street Survival, and our first ever Cars & Coffee coming up next weekend. That’s A LOT of events scheduled mid-season… and I for one am excited! Keep your eyes peeled for more info on all, and we’ll look forward to seeing a lot of familiar faces. Last week, we hosted another Facebook Live session where I reviewed some positions we have available in the club (see the list here in the Squeal!), Chris Brown and Melissa Mauro also joined in to make exciting announcements about two new venues - York Expo Center (autocross) and Lancaster County Public Training Center (Street Survival). LOTS going on as we inch closer to National Championship season for SCCA. As always, if you want to see something happening that isn’t already, step on up and let’s talk about it. We don’t bite (too hard!). WANNA HAVE FUN?By Kristen Poole So, there are certain things that need to happen to make sure the club runs smoothly. Without volunteers, programs can’t be successful (or they can’t exist… ouch!). We’re currently looking to fill a bunch of positions, from Social Media Administrator/Moderator to some program helpers for Road Rally and Street Survival, and a few others in between. Right now, our core volunteers are stretched too thin. If we don’t get anyone who is interested in helping with these positions, we’ll have to take a look at what that means for our programs (autocross, rallycross, etc.) moving forward into 2019. So if you want to keep having fun, or you’ve ever *thought* about stepping up… now’s the time! Please check out the link below and drop me a line (or click below!). I’ll look forward to hearing from you! Photo Credit: Tom Hamm Photography Don't Miss our FINAL Farm Show Event! We had another stellar double-header event at Farm Show on July 22. We ran a different configuration—due to venue constraints—which allowed us to run the course backward in the afternoon. Rob Springer did another fantastic job putting together courses that were challenging both directions. I know we’re all looking forward to what he brings to the table for our last double-header at Farm Show on September 9. Since it’s our last event at Farm Show for the foreseeable future, don’t wait too long before you get signed up! Both events will cap out at 125 and a wait list will begin. Those waitlisted will be admitted ONLY in order of sign up, and ONLY if entrants cancel their spot. You’ve been warned! :) See you in September! Photo Credit: Faye Chilcote Rallycross: Breaking News! by John Roscinski Susquehanna RallyCross announces the addition of an extra event this year! September 22nd will be a non-points event held at the Elmerton lot in Harrisburg. While the points season ends on August 18th, the fun does not! Fortunately for us, the Farm Show had some available dates. The bonus event on the 22nd coincides with another RallyCross event on the 23rd with DC Region at the famous Summit Point! Doublecross anyone? Susquehanna to Host First TRSS Nov. 3 by Melissa Mauro We have successfully secured a venue, Lancaster County Training Center, to enable us to host our first-ever Tire Rack Street Survival program on November 3rd. This is going to be a great way to give back to the community, and help make some teens safer out on the road. If you're interesting in coaching, and you haven't gotten your certification yet, you can go here and take the course. It takes about 45 minutes, and you'll get a certificate when you're finished. The certificates are emailed to Tim Beechuk, but if you can email me at streetsurvival@scca-susq.com, so I know you're certified, that would be great. If you're interested in helping with the event in any way (there is a lot to be done), I'd love to hear from you as well. Feel free to email me or reach out via Facebook. Announcing Two New Region Events! By Lisa Leathery Race Cars & Coffee All are welcome! Come join and hang out with SCCA drivers who compete in many avenues including (but not limited to) autocross, rallycross, road rally, road racing and hill climbing. We welcome all cars and drivers to join us and learn more about our passion for motorsports as well as an opportunity to showcase your ride! We all have one thing in common: We're motor heads! Date: August 25, 2018 Barn Quilt RoadRally! Susquehanna Region is excited to bring back Road Rally to the region! Please join us on Saturday, October 6th for the inaugural Quilt Trail Road Rally, in conjunction with the Fulton Barn Quilt Trail. This trail provides a beautiful drive through scenic valleys nestled in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. This event is designed to provide an enjoyable drive through the country side while conducting a scavenger hunt for Barn Quilts. Roads are challenging with sharp curves, steep climbs and wildlife crossings all combined with an unknown route. Driver and navigator must work together to stay on course while looking for clues. It’s just $25 per car to pre-register. Come out, enjoy the view and spot the quilts! Note: We will be looking for a few volunteers to help with the check point stations and final scoring. Volunteers are also able to take part in the Road Rally! If you're available to help out, please contact Lisa Leathery. August Regional MeetingThursday, August 23rd • 7:30 p.m. Our next meeting will be held on the second floor at Appalachian Brewing Company, 50 N. Cameron Street, Harrisburg, PA 17101. Get to Know Hagerty HPDE & Track Day Insurance JUL 19, 2018 — If you don’t know Hagerty, it’s time to get on board! Why? Because Hagerty is the undisputed worldwide gold standard for classic vehicle insurance. Why again? Because their prices, service and vehicle valuation tools are so darned good that customers write them things like “Most insurance companies are the Spawn of Hell. Not y’all! Love you guys!” (Seriously, that’s an actual quote.) Learning Curve AUG 1, 2018 — As most Sports Car Club of America competitors know, there’s always room for improvement when it comes to performance driving. And driving schools are great places to learn where improvements can be made. Get to Know DirtFish Rally School JUL 26, 2017 — Did you know Rallycross is the fastest-growing form of racing in the world? It’s easy to see why- enthusiastic but relaxed community, short, fast races where the terrain isn’t exactly the same lap to lap, and an abundance of cars that can be both competitive and fun on course.
