OTTAWA AGREES TO STUDY MORTGAGE CHANGES AT PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE As a direct result of our collective lobbying efforts, we are very pleased to announce that the Standing Committee on Finance will be undertaking a study on the impacts of the federal government's October changes to mortgage insurance eligibility. This is a clear indication that Ottawa is listening to our concerns and that our joint advocacy campaign is working. The study, which will take place in the new year, is an opportunity for Ottawa to investigate the negative impacts the changes are having on our industry as well as for recommendations to be made directly to the government. Mortgage Professionals Canada is looking forward to presenting our members' issues to the committee and is in the process of compiling a robust and diverse list of potential member witnesses who may also be called upon to appear. This is an ideal time for you to reach out to your MP to set up a meeting to discuss this issue as Parliment is on break until January 30, 2017. We will keep you apprised of developments as more information becomes available. In the meantime, please take the opportunity to have your voice heard through our letter writing campaign and take advantage of the resources we have available to facilitate discussions with your Members of Parliament. To date, over 1,500 letters have been sent and over 80% of MPs have heard your voice. Click here to see who has yet to be contacted. |
