Important seasonal influenza update – Influenza cases higher than predicted peak
Seasonal influenza activity is continuing to rise above its predicted peak and NSW Health is reporting that it is expected to remain high for the coming weeks. Hospitals are seeing increasing presentations of influenza-like symptoms to emergency departments and admissions for pneumonia remain high. Cases are more severe and numbers are trending upward faster than anticipated. General practitioners are asked to encourage patients to try and manage their symptoms at home and not attend emergency unless they are very unwell or have co-morbidities. NSW Health also requests GPs check the vaccination status of patients, particularly the elderly and those with chronic health conditions. Further information
