COMMUNITY STUDIO

An Inside Look at Character in Scriptwriting

Monday, September 21, 7-8 PM ET, Virtual

In each studio session, mentors and mentees learn about and practice a few fundamentals of scriptwriting, like "show don’t tell" and "writing dialogue with subtext." In this studio, we will explore the importance of creating rounded, layered characters in screenplays and test some methods for doing that.

A Design Career Chat & Charrette 

Tuesday, September 22, 6-7:30 PM ET, In-Person

With Eggi Magazine, we are bringing designers, mentees, and members into the same room at our Midtown Manhattan headquarters—first for a panel with working designers, then for a charrette, a hands-on session where small groups sketch what the Girls Write Now Collaboratory could become. You will help design the room you write in.

Editorial Fellowship

You would edit the book, not write it. Nightboat Books is taking applications for its third Editorial Fellowship. Over two years you would work alongside Nightboat staff to acquire, edit, and guide to publication a project you choose—experimental writing that has been undervalued or overlooked, from any community you know well—with the mentorship and resources to see it through. The project cannot be your own writing. Black and Indigenous editors, and editors from communities historically underrepresented in publishing, are especially encouraged to apply.
