Thanks to everyone who confirmed whether or not they will attend classes during Alert Level 2. We realise a number of people from our newer classes were not on the mailing list, so missed Tuesday’s e-newsletter. Our apologies – you have now been added. An update on government guidelines for dance classesDid you spot the TVNZ story about dance classes under Alert Level 2, which ran on Wednesday? If you did, you’ll already know dance studios have now been advised they can follow the same rules used by offices, gyms and public venues. This means studios can have more than 10 people in their classes, providing the studio is big enough to allow for appropriate physical distancing. Ours is! To work out the capacity of our studio, we have followed the 2 metre physical distance recommended by Dance Aotearoa New Zealand and Sport New Zealand. All classes are well under the capacity we are able to take. So, if you haven’t been in touch yet, and you would like to restart classes,
please email us or text Michael on 021 273 8903.
Our safety measuresThe studio, and how your class runs, will be a little different to what you’re used to. Please make sure you have read the information below before heading into the studio. - Instead of coming into the studio as soon as you arrive, please follow this process:
- If you are
attending the first class of the evening, please wait (at a safe 2 metre distance) until the door has been opened by Michael or Kim.
- For all other classes, please wait (at a safe 2 metre distance) until all people from the previous class have exited the studio and Michael or Kim signal for you to enter.
- Classes are now 45 minutes. This will give you 5 minutes to leave at the conclusion of your class, enable us 5 minutes to sanitise touchpoints, and then provide 5 minutes for the next class to enter and get their dance shoes on.
- Please sanitise your
hands when you enter. You’ll find hand sanitiser on the reception counter. We also have hand sanitiser beside the drinking fountain, and there's plenty of soap in both bathrooms for you to use.
- Please pay by eftpos. Our terminal can take contactless payment.
- The class register is our contact tracing system, so it’s imperative you check in at reception before every class you attend. The first time you check in during Alert Level 2, we will ask you to confirm your contact details.
- Sorry, but the water cooler/drinking fountain will not be available. Please make sure you bring plenty of water with you.
- Tables have been removed from
the social area to reduce the number of surfaces you come into contact with.
- Chairs are mostly 2 metres apart. We have also set out pairs of chairs – only sit in these chairs if you are with someone from your COVID-19 family/friend group.
- The number of dancers on the floor at any time will be limited. This will vary depending on the size and level of your class, as well as the dance style. Please be patient and kind.
- Unless you dance with someone who is in your COVID-19 family/friend group, you'll be dancing as individuals. No senior partners will be provided by us and we will not be swapping partners during the lesson. We realise this will feel odd for some of you, but it’s actually
very good for your dancing and will hold you in good stead for when you’re back dancing with someone. That’s because you will truly learn how to dance your own steps (you can’t fudge them on your own), and you'll be developing and improving your balance. Let’s not forget you’ll also still be getting some exercise and having a laugh with your dance mates.
- Finally, while we’d love to see you, please stay at home if you're feeling unwell, have been asked to self-isolate, have tested positive for COVID-19 or are waiting for test results.
Private lessonsPrivate lessons are now available for people who dance with someone in their COVID-19 family/friend group. Individuals are also welcome to book private lessons, but at Alert Level 2 will have to dance on their own. Please either email Michael or give him a call to book your spot.
