Featured this month is our summer edition of UPDATE, which was recently mailed to members and includes a wide variety of articles; check out our first feature on Coast Guard Search and Rescue as well as helpful fire prevention tips that every cottager should know! OPP Warns Boaters of Hazardous DebrisThe OPP has warned boaters to be cautious of broken structures and trees left behind by recent flooding and ice melt. Debris could scattered across the lakes and may be very difficult to see when partially submerged. Striking debris poses a serious hazard and can be catastrophic to a vessel and its passengers. GBA as a Witness on Bill C-68Georgian Bay Association's Executive Director, Rupert Kindersley, was asked to appear as a witness to the Senate Sub-Committee dealing with the new Fisheries Act Bill C-68 and provide evidence on the negative environmental impacts of open net fish farms. Study: Cruising in Ontario - One of the Last Un-Cruised Places in the WorldThe town of Midland utilized a $250,000 grant from Ontario's Ministry of Tourism to do a study on expanding the cruise industry to small ports such as: Kingston, Windsor, Parry Sound, Sault Ste. May 11th Water Levels ReportThe recent wet conditions have caused water levels to climb and currently, water levels across the basin are 8 to 12 inches above last year’s water levels at this time.
