Click here It's sales data timeIt’s time to submit your sales data – there have been great improvements in the energy efficiency of some products - and your data means we can measure the savings to consumers and business, as well as reduced carbon emissions. As an importer or manufacturer, you are required by law to provide EECA with information on your sales, imports and exports – but we would like to acknowledge everyone’s help and co-operation in past years. We will send you an email on 29 March outlining how to submit data - data collection runs from the 1 April to 1 August. Refrigeration updateThe COAG Energy Council (including New Zealand's Minister of Energy and Resources Megan Woods) has approved updates to regulation for household refrigeration and freezers and commercial refrigeration equipment. As a next step New Zealand Cabinet approval will be sought to amend regulations to include these updates. Have your say on electric motorsThe Department of the Environment and Energy in Australia wants feedback on a draft Determination for three phase cage induction motors. The Determination is an Australian legal document but you may be interested because EECA works closely with Australia through the E3 programme and our regulations for energy using products are similar. EECA will also update New Zealand’s regulations to align with the IEC test method, as laid out in the draft Determination. Feedback is due by EOD 16 March. Air conditioners/heat pumpsEECA will update you on progress and implementation time frames for air conditioners. The next step is for the COAG Energy Council to consider the proposed updates to regulation. Check testing and complianceEECA is working through compliance and check-testing issues with manufacturers of dishwashers and hot water tanks. We are also in the process of buying TV’s, fridge/freezers, and heat pumps for this year’s check testing programme, and carrying out a compliance risk assessment to identify products for next year’s check testing programme. EECA is happy to receive information on the importation and sale of non-registered products. This is unfair to those who are selling registered, MEPS compliant products and poses a risk of inefficient products for consumers. We would like your feedback on MEPS compliance issues that you feel we should focus on. Stakeholder meetings are being planned for July/August.
Introducing Eddie ThompsonEddie comes from an engineering background and manages the Standards and Regulations team. The team represents New Zealand in the trans-Tasman Equipment Energy Efficiency E3 programme and carries out the functions of the New Zealand Regulatory Authority (programme management, administration and compliance) for both the Energy Efficiency (Energy Using Products) Regulations 2002 and the Energy Efficiency (Vehicle Fuel Economy Labelling) Regulations 2007. “The work we are doing alongside manufacturers and retailers is saving money for New Zealand consumers and businesses – and contributing to reduced carbon emissions. It’s something we should all be proud of.” Eddie enjoys working with the New Zealand industry, understanding how proposed regulations will change the market, identifying any issues and developing solutions. "I’m looking forward to having more regular feedback on our performance - we are currently developing a simple survey to proactively seek this feedback," Eddie says.
