STEAMpunk GalaOur very own urban space was transformed into a victorian-industrial soiree during last week’s STEAMpunk themed Gala. Thank you to all of the families and community members who showed their support by attending the Gala, as well as those who secured the hundreds of amazing donations and sponsorships. A huge thank you to Erika Fox, Carrie Gunn, MaeLin Levine, Kimmie Orton, Jelena Opacic, and our Gala Planning Committee for the countless hours of planning and prep work they put in to make this event possible. It was a beautiful and exciting evening in the company of our amazing families and friends! Another big thank you to the following sponsors for their generous support: Navarra Family Talent ShowThe UDA Talent Show will be held on Wednesday, May 31 during school hours. Auditions for the show will take place after school on Tuesday, April 25 and Thursday, April 27. All interested students must submit a completed Talent Show form to his/her teacher by April 7th, and you will receive an email confirmation with the date and time of your child's audition. All acts are limited to 2 minutes and should include current UDA students only. Golf TournamentThe Annual UDA Golf Tournament and Family Fun Event will be held on May 12 at Salt Creek Golf Course. Don't let the name intimidate you. Even if you don't golf, there will be plenty of events for everyone! Play will begin at 12pm, fun events and games begin at 4:00, and dinner and entertainment at 5:00. Anyone interested in joining the planning committee or volunteering may email thenetwork@urbandiscoveryacademy.com. KinderIn February, kinders focused on the UDA learner outcome of Athlete, and what better way to extend their understanding and learning than a trip to Petco Park? The students loved their behind the scenes tour of the baseball stadium. Second GradeSecond grade ventured to the Living Coast Discovery Center for a workshop on pollinators. Students also toured the center and excitedly took advantage of their opportunity to touch the stingrays. Fourth GradeLast week, fourth grade visited Cabrillo National Monument and the Visitor Center. They had a blast discovering what life on a ship was like in the 1500's, as well as what life was like when Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo first anchored his ship in San Diego Harbor. The students went on a tour with a park ranger and even completed a 2 mile hike on the Bayside Trail! Fifth GradeThe fifth graders have been working on the set design for their "Women of the American Revolution" talk shows! Visual ArtsAfter exploring surrealism and 2 point perspective, 6th graders are making art inspired by nature. Their fruit designs will later be transformed into unique patterns. K-5 You and Me DanceJoin Girl Scout Troop 4159 (13 amazing UDA 5th graders) as they host UDA’s first You and Me Dance on Friday, April 14 from 5:30-8pm. We encourage all elementary students (k-5) to get dressed up and bring a guardian for a date night to dance the night away. It can be Father/Daughter, Mother/Son, Daughter/Mom, Father/Son, Uncle/Nephew, Grandma/Grandchild… any combination is awesome. The more the merrier! Tickets are $5 per person ($10 per couple), and can be purchased here. All students must be accompanied by a guardian, and the guardian can accompany multiple children if needed. Tickets include snacks, photo booth, and dancing with friends. All proceeds will go to support Troop 4159's upcoming San Francisco trip where they participate in a ceremony in which they cross the Golden Gate Bridge, as well as their Bronze service project to help local homeless children. Online Uniform OrdersUniforms purchased from UDA’s online store will be delivered two more times before the end of the school year. Order by March 17 to receive your items on April 28 (from the front office), or order by April 14 to receive your items by May 31. Reporting an Absence ReminderIf your child needs to remain at home due to illness, family emergency, funeral, legal matter, or religious holiday, UDA needs to receive notification from a parent/guardian by 9am on the day of in order to excuse the absence. In order to report the absence, you may either call the school (619-788-4668) and select option 2 to leave a voice message, or send an email to attendance@urbansd.com.
