Mentee Zai Rivera Is Invited to Read at The Met

A Scholastic Gold Key Winner Gets Her Moment To Shine

Girls Write Now is proud to celebrate mentee Zai Rivera, who has recently been honored with a Gold Key by the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards for her personal essay, “Mango.” Rivera’s Girls Write Now mentor, Rachel Cantrell, joined in celebrating her work at the ceremony. The Scholastic Awards are the longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens, and every year, Girls Write Now mentees are among the top honorees. Rivera will be reading “Mango” at the New York City Scholastic Awards Regional Gold Key Exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Opening Reception, which will take place on March 27 from 6 PM – 8 PM ET and is open to the public.

Find out the answers to these questions and more at this timely Career Chat. Also, learn interviewing tips that you can use in podcasting and beyond. Speakers include Chloe Hoy of The Permanent Rain Press, Nia Stanford of bittnia, Brittany Luse of NPR’s It’s Been a Minute, and more.

Open Mic

Join us for an evening of creativity, expression, and community! This Open Mic is a space to connect with other artists and creators through poetry, song, and overall storytelling. Whether you want to perform a piece you've written, something you love (but didn’t write), or just soak it all in, you're welcome here. We'll kick things off with some writing prompts then begin the open mic. Each performer will have 3 minutes to share!
