Overmolding Technology at TPRC

Great progress has been made with the COMPeTE project, which focuses on the overmolding of thermoplastic composites such as G/PA6 and C/PAEK. Two themes are addressed: the development of the adhesion between the injected polymer and the composite insert, and the modelling of residual stress build-up and warpage in order to improve the dimensional accuracy of the final part. Virtual processing software for injection molding (Autodesk Moldflow®) and composite forming (AniForm) are being coupled, taking into account polymer shrinkage, fibre reorientation and forming induced fibre stresses. The developed models are validated using an overmolding cell based on a CX160 injection machine, which was placed by KraussMaffei Technologies GmbH in April 2016. Results will be presented at the SAMPE Europe conference in Liege, the CAMX 2016 in Anaheim and ITHEC 2016 in Bremen.

Sebastiaan Wijskamp (Business Development) will give a presentation about 'Overmoulding - joining plastics and composites' on the upcoming Automotive Thermoplastics Composites 2016 in Düsseldorf on July 6th.

TPRC-student wins the SAMPE Benelux student competition

The SAMPE Benelux student meeting is organized once a year as a two-day event, mingling seminars with social activities. It aims to introduce a new generation of engineers and research to the SAMPE organization. Finalizing master and mid-way Ph.D. students are invited to present their work to fellow students and industry. University of Twente student Erik Krämer is one of the winning students. He performs his graduation assignment at TPRC in the field of overmolding.
