5 Tips for Social Media Branding

Social media is a great way to build word-of-mouth for your company. Dozens of companies create Facebook business pages and Twitter accounts every day to help promote their businesses.  But just having a Facebook page or a Twitter account isn’t enough, and if you aren’t branding your social media accounts properly then having those accounts won’t help you.  Here are some tips for social media branding.

Tip #1- Think About Your Brand

Before you even start branding your social media accounts you need to think about your brand. What does your brand stand for? What kind of feelings do you want to evoke with your brand?  Having a brand name isn’t enough if you use the spaghetti method (throwing things against the wall and seeing what sticks) for advertising. Your company should have a clear, concise idea of what they want your brand to stand for. Pick three words that your brand should be and stick to them. These three words should be the core of how you decide social media posts. Ask yourself “does this post/tweet/image reflect my company brand?

Tip: Go beyond your own business page

In the interest of visibility, you should go further than just responding to comments on your own business page. Start to engage with other real estate professional pages.

Leave comments on the pages of businesses that are similar to yours or even businesses with which you have done business with. If one of those businesses posts a status update, photo, video or other item you enjoy, click "Share" to share it with your own followers. When you show active participation on other business pages, those pages are more likely to do the same for you.

Peer insight: Know what’s appealing

No one cares about sharing your next promotion. Agents that get more exposure on social networks do so because they're offering valuable content and resources that people actually want to share.

Make a point to put out posts and messages that you yourself would share if you were the one seeing them for the first time. Make content fresh and inviting, with unique topics and great visual appeal.

Tip: Variety is key

Post a variety of types of posts. Stop following everyone else and posting only photo posts. While photos are nice, they don’t stand out or add any value when not used with other forms of engagement. Post every kind of message you possibly can. All the time. People respond to different things. Be unique and stand out from your competition.
