RED BELLY'S CAULFIELD CUP PLUNGE

Caulfield Cup - Ambivalent - $26 Win, $7.50 Place (paying 4 place dividends)

All-In betting is not something we do a lot of at Red Belly, because we don't like doing our money cold if things go wrong before the race.

We make an exception when it comes to the Cups, and have produced some highly profitable selections for our members:

  • 2013 - Fiorente $34 Melbourne Cup winner
  • 2012 - Green Moon $26 Melbourne Cup winner

These were our only all-in bets over the last two years.

Our long-range selection this year is the Irish mare Ambivalent in the Caulfield Cup (2400m).

This six-year-old ran an impressive third in the rich Sheema Classic (2400m) at the Dubai World Cup meeting in March.

Ambivalent was beaten just 1.5 lengths by Japanese superstar Gentildonna, and finished in front of a host of top quality stayers including Dunaden and Mount Athos.

The mare's on-pace racing style is ideal for Caulfield, and the performance at Meydan showed she can run well after travelling, which is obviously vital for any overseas raider coming to Melbourne.

Click the play button above to watch Ambivalent's run in the Sheema Classic

Members took $26 and $7.50 available about Ambivalent for the Caulfield Cup early this week.

We expect her to jump at a significantly shorter quote if she makes it to the race safe and sound which then provides us with a "crush" bet back opportunity (i.e. a FREE bet).

Remember: with all-in betting, if the horse you back doesn't start in the race for any reason, you lose your money.

GET LATE MAIL ON TWITTER & FACEBOOK

We're not the biggest tweeters, preferring to spend our time doing form, avoiding social media snipers and keyboard tough guys, but we increase our social media use during the Spring Carnival.

We enjoy interacting with serious racing enthusiasts on Twitter, so follow us @redbellysports or Like our Facebook page to get our early mail.

Members are always our number one priority, they will always get set first but we'll still post some early mail along with our thoughts on certain races.

THE MIDWEEK REPORT

It was a week of limited activity for Red Belly Ratings members, which sometimes happens, because we only bet when we feel we have an edge.

We bet into just one race at Canterbury on Wednesday, with our main selection - One Direction - beaten by a nose.

Members posted a minor profit on Thursday's Wyong meeting, with 1 winner from 3 bets:

  • Stable Surprise ($4.60 rated a $3.50 chance)

The ratings delivered a profit over the weekend at Rosehill (Saturday), along with Caulfield and Warwick Farm (Sunday), with the following winners:

  • Rock Sturdy ($4.40 rated $3.60)
  • Afleet Esprit ($8 rated $6)
  • Target In Sight ($6.50 rated $4)
  • Diamond Oasis ($3.70 rated $2.70)

It was very nearly a big winning day for members on the Sunday, with Dissident beaten beaten a short half head in the Sir Rupert Clarke.
