Upcoming Competition Deadline

Preliminary Safety Form Due, June 26

The first Competition Deadline is coming up at the end of this month: the Preliminary Safety Form. The purpose of the Safety Form is for everyone, including iGEM, to know you are doing your project safely and securely. This is how we know that everyone in iGEM is assessing and managing any risks to yourselves, your colleagues, communities or the environment.

An initial version of this form, with as much information as possible, is to be provided by the team by June 26, 11:59PM EDT. Any team member may fill this in and save the form for submission. The form does not need to be signed off by the PI until September 11.

Teams are encouraged to visit the Safety Hub to review iGEM's Safety and Security Policies, and find guidance on how to safely do iGEM.

Doing Human Practices During a Global Pandemic

The Human Practices Committee understands that many teams will have limited laboratory access this year, and will have to think carefully before hosting public events or organizing face-to-face meetings. We know you’ll rise to the challenge, and we want to help.

In our blog post on Doing Human Practices During A Global Pandemic and the Opening Weekend sessions we hosted, we describe exciting ways to build Human Practices into your project that don’t require in-person meetings. If you have any questions or want any support, reach out to us at humanpractices AT igem DOT org. You can also contact us if you would like a Human Practices Committee member to present at your team meetup.
