The Faculty of Science is once again hosting the University of Melbourne Science Festival, as part of National Science week. This year, the event will run Monday 14 August - Friday 18 August. SISTEM Hub Pilot ProjectSISTEM Hub is a virtual community of female STEM students (15-24 years) and STEM professionals interacting via SISTEM’s new digital platform. The platform is a growing hub of knowledge, career exploration tools and links to opportunities such as workplace based programs, internships, events, competitions and early career jobs. Female students are invited to enrol in the pilot project, spend a minimum of 30 minutes navigating the platform during testing phase and to provide feedback, so that the live platform provides the very best community of practice and knowledge sharing in STEM. Around 240 Year 10 students will be on campus to showcase their contraptions at Wilson Hall. Volunteer roles include set up, ushering, registration, and engaging with Year 10 students. Indo-Pacific Cyber 9/12 Student ChallengeThe Cyber 9/12 Student Challenge is a one-of-a-kind competition designed to provide students across academic disciplines with a deeper understanding of the policy challenges associated with cyber crisis and conflict. Part interactive learning experience and part competitive scenario exercise, it challenges teams to respond to a realistic, evolving cyber attack and analyze the threat it poses to national, international, and private sector interests. Students have a unique opportunity to interact with expert mentors and high-level cyber professionals while developing valuable skills in policy analysis and presentation. The competition has already engaged over seven hundred students from universities in the United States, United Kingdom, France, United Arab Emirates, Poland, Switzerland, Austria, Hungary, Sweden, Finland, and Estonia. Graduate and undergraduate students from any university, including defense colleges and military academies, are invited to apply to compete in teams of four. Old Engineering Building closed for Open Day (Fri 18 August, 7.30pm, reopening Mon 21 August)Please note that students will have limited access to the Old Engineering study spaces (north wing and Level 1) on Fri 18 Aug due to Open Day set-up. Students are asked to please vacate the lounge areas at midday on Fri 18 August to allow for set-up to commence. The building will then be closed from 7.30pm Fri 18th Aug and will reopen on Mon 21 Aug.
