INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

Join us for an International Women’s Day online brunch from 9.30am on Tuesday 9 March with special guest presenter Angela (Anj) Barker OAM.

Anj’s story is an inspirational journey of survival. She was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 2019 in recognition of her continuing community work in anti-domestic violence advocacy having survived a violent attack by her ex-boyfriend.

We have partnered with local business the Wandong Collective to curate a collection of International Women’s Day gift boxes that can be pre-ordered and delivered to participants' homes.

QUARRY UPDATE Council refuses quarry application

Councillors unanimously refused an application for a quarry AT175 Northern Highway, Wallan, at Monday's Council meeting.

So much work has gone into planning future development in these areas.

A quarry will undermine all the good planning outcomes we’re trying to achieve in this area.

It will also compromise future liveability, growth, economic development and jobs, not to mention the impacts on quality of life through truck traffic, noise and vibration.

PARKING RULES Keeping our streets safe

Heavy or long vehicles over 4.5 tonne cannot be parked on roads in a built-up area for longer than one hour unless:

  • parking signs say that it is allowed, or
  • the driver is picking up or setting down goods.

These restrictions are in place to improve safety, as large vehicles can restrict traffic flow, create blind spots and have an amenity impact on residents.

If you think someone is regularly parking illegally go to "Report an Issue or Incident" on our website.

SCHOOL SAFETY Take care around schools

School's back, so please obey school zone speed limits and parking restrictions to help keep our kids safe.

You can help keep school children and road users safe by:

  • walking to school where you can or dropping children off away from the busy school drop off areas
  • using the school crossings
  • leaving enough time to park and walk or to wait to access a drop off zone
  • parking legally

Fun fact: We operate 21 supervised crossings across the shire.

EXTRA SUPPORT Reaching out to those in need

The Victorian Government has partnered with local councils to deliver the Community Activation and Social Isolation (CASI) initiative.

If you know a business operator or a person in our community who might benefit from some extra support at the moment, please encourage them to reach out to our CASI support program.

The service provides direction and helps people who might be feeling alone or people who have lost their regular networks during the COVID-19 pandemic.

To access streamlined support people can now phone the Victorian Government COVID-19 hotline on 1800 675 398.
