This advanced course will work with senior staff and managers, Trustees and CEOs to combine theory and practical sessions to establish how a museum should plan to respond in a crisis situation.  From developing a crisis communications strategy to implementation when things go wrong.

22 September - Volunteer Peer to Peer:
Identifying Needs - Part 1 of 2

An opportunity to shape the development of your volunteer network hosted by Richard Gough, Volunteer coordinator, Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust

Richard is also part of the Heritage Volunteering Group, made up of volunteer managers from the UK heritage and museum sector working to strengthen organisations and consider ways to treat volunteers more fairly, consistently and sustainably.

This session will focus on volunteer recruitment and motivation and share with you best practice in Volunteer Management.  It aims to provide you with ideas on how to get the volunteers you need, in the areas you need them.

 

5 October – ‘Collection Tapas’ Collections Knowledge Cafés
10am – 4pm, RAF Museum, Cosford

Do you have plastics in your collection?

We are running a collections care event on Wednesday 5th October at the RAF Museum, Cosford. Abby Moore, Museum of London will be running her ‘Plastic Surgery’ sessions during the day, looking at some of the problems and solutions surrounding the care of plastics in museum collections.

Other activities on the day will include short workshops on ‘Handling and Packing’ and ‘Museum Pests’ from Jane Thompson-Webb, Birmingham Museum Trust.

There will also be advice on identifying and caring for photographic collections from Chris Copp, Staffordshire Archives & Heritage Service. Sarah Brown, Collections Trust will be on hand to offer advice on all areas of collections from digitisation to copyright and Meaco will have the latest in environmental monitoring equipment advice.
