Last week, leaders of the business events industry and members of BECA descended on Canberra to meet with Federal Parliamentarians and senior departmental officials as part of the Business Events Meets Parliament program that took place at Parliament House. The event commenced the evening prior with a board dinner with special guest, the Hon Steven Ciobo MP, Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment. This was followed by the hallmark event, a bipartisan Friends of Tourism luncheon where industry leaders pitched the value of business events to Australia and described the competitiveness of the industry. There were a total of 16,700 arrivals in April 2017 whose main purpose of coming to Australia was a convention/conference. This translates to a 12.6% decrease from the April 2016 (19,100).
