SEMPHN launches The Way Back
SEMPHN in partnership with Better Place Australia and Monash Health recently launched the Way Back Support Service, a suicide prevention program to support people who have experienced a suicide attempt or suicidal crisis. The Way Back Support Service has been jointly funded by the Australian and Victorian Governments as part of the Suicide Prevention Placed-Based Trials and is being delivered through Casey and Dandenong hospitals. The service model, designed by Beyond Blue, assigns individuals to a Support Coordinator upon discharge to help guide them through their recovery. Support Coordinators provide psycho-social support such as helping build a
personalised safety plan and linking them to health and community services, complementary to the clinical care provided by Monash Health. This short video shows how The Way Back has helped ex-client Paul and the support he received from his Support Coordinator Clint.
Telehealth services extended until
31 December
The Federal Government announced that GPs can provide Medicare subsidised telehealth consults until at least 31 December 2021. The Government is working with peak bodies to design a model for permanent post-pandemic telehealth services. To support GPs in the provision of telehealth services, the Department of Health has also extended free access to Healthdirect’s Video Call platform until 31 December 2021. Video consults don't replace face-to-face consults, but they do offer some significant advantages over telephone consults including: - Visual cues and information for diagnosis - no need for the patient to transfer images by non-secure email
- Easier to gauge the patient's understanding
- Easier to manage any misunderstandings
- Easier to conduct general assessments during routine calls
Although video consults may not be necessary for all telehealth consults, having Video Call set up in your practice may offer you a better option for the more complex consults. Any general practices that have not already registered for Video Call should contact our
Digital Health team at digitalhealth@semphn.org.au or 03 8514 4460 and we can set this up for you, as well as provide you and your team with the necessary training.
