Deputy Editor Nigel Pittaway opens today's Defence Week with the news that BAE Systems is offering its Queen Elizabeth class carrier design to India, which has a requirement for a 65,000 tonne carrier to be known as the INS Vishal. ADM understands that Indian officials have already visited BAE Systems’ shipyard at Rosyth, Scotland.
In other news, Defence is on track to spend 1.93 per cent of GDP in this year's Budget, Team Defence Australia heads to Malaysia for LIMA 19, HMAS Brisbane completes seaworthiness trials, Defence inspects the first Australian Boxer, and the Space Agency gets a mission control centre.
And the house announcements: nominations for this year's Women in Defence Awards close next Wednesday, April 10. The awards will be presented at a gala dinner on July 11.
