Overcoming roadblocks in treatment
Do your clients struggle to make behavioural changes? Despite our best intentions, at times it is hard to help our clients overcome barriers to making changes that will ultimately improve their health.
During June 2016, Central and Eastern Sydney Allied Health Network hosted two breakfast seminars on ‘Overcoming Roadblocks in Treatment’, specifically for allied health professionals. These interactive educational sessions focused on building AHPs skills in motivational interviewing. Motivational interviewing can be viewed as ‘…a particular kind of conversation about change, which is collaborative and seeks to call forth the person's own motivation and commitment'. Motivational interviewing workshop
This workshop on motivational interviewing in health care settings provides an opportunity for participants to experience fun and interactive sessions, where the focus is on common issues, practical strategies and time-saving tips aimed at decreasing frustrations and improving the outcomes of consultations. Dr Monica Moore will assist health clinicians to develop and adapt the skills of motivational interviewing within the context of a busy work environment. The emphasis will

Domestic and family violence
Domestic and family violence is the leading preventable contributor to death, disability and illness in women aged 15-44 years. More than one in five women make their first disclosure of domestic violence to a health professional. Allied health professionals are well placed to identify a risk of domestic violence and to take action to intervene early. Click here to read more
Recommendations for using SMS communication
Following on from our successful Privacy and Social Media in Your Practice event held at our Ashfield Office, presenter Walid Jammal from Avant, Australia’s leading medical defence organisation spoke about key areas of privacy in digital health, electronic communication and social media.
