Silent Auction Items for Our Rooftop CelebrationWe are seeking the support of families at every grade level to help secure silent auction items for our Rooftop Celebration on June 2. Each grade level should focus on securing donations based on their grade-specific theme (view the themes here), and all items should be brought to the office by May 18. Please remember, the items listed are just suggestions, so feel free to get creative with your grade's theme. Thank you for your support! Meet Allison SummersetAllison Summerset has been teaching for 6 years, and is excited to join the UDA team as our 5th-8th grade PE teacher. She has experience in a variety of grades and subjects, but her passion lies within Physical Education and Health. A New Jersey native, Ms. Summerset received her Health and PE degree from Kean University. She is happy to share her passion by teaching students the benefits of living an active and healthy lifestyle through Health and PE. ELAC MeetingOn Thursday, May 24, UDA’s English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC) will meet from 3:45-4:45pm in the conference room. The primary functions of this committee are to make recommendations regarding programming and supports offered by the school to English Learners, identify potential school-related challenges faced by students and families and offer resources, and increase the voice and participation of underrepresented families. This meeting is open to all families. We hope to see you there! Scholastic Book FairThe final Scholastic Book Fair is coming soon! The “Buy One, Get One Free” fair will take place from May 29- June 1 in the library. We will need volunteers to help with set-up, clean-up, and book sales, so please click here to sign up for a shift. Book Fair volunteers helping after school will be provided with free after-care by STAR until 4pm. Eighth GradeEighth graders enjoyed their recent overnight trip to Catalina Island where they learned about island ecology and marine biology while snorkeling, climbing, dissecting, and participating in team building activities! Visual ArtsFourth graders are creating art inspired by Mexican coconut masks, a type of Mexican folk art in which bright, fanciful faces are crafted from coconut shell halves. Camp Urban SolThis summer, the UDA Foundation will once again host Camp Urban Sol, an assortment of half-day courses taught by credentialed teachers. Participating students will continue to learn over summer through hands-on activities, experiments, community adventures, and play. July 9-August 3, 2018 A Message from Network ParentsNetwork Nominations Teacher and Staff Appreciation Middle School Bonfire Top Notch LunchesTo order a hot lunch for your child, first create an account with Top Notch. User accounts from last year do not carry over, so all parents must register for the 2017-2018 year. To register, click on “Order Online Today” from the homepage, then select “Register.” On this page, you will need to enter the password for UDA, which is URA6. Upon entering the password, you will be able to complete the registration process by creating your own username and password. Families that meet the free or reduced qualification according to this form will receive discounted Top Notch lunches. The discount will be automatically applied to each order. Online orders must be placed by 6pm on the day before the lunch delivery. Top Notch can not supply lunches requested after this deadline. Reporting AbsencesPlease remember to report student absences by 9:00 am on the day of your child’s absence. To report an absence, you may call the main line at 619-788-4668 and press option #2 to leave a message, or you may send an email to attendance@urbansd.com.
