From the Editor's DeskHi, there —During the week of Labor Day, I'll be making my second trip across the country to head to Lincoln Nebraska, and the Solo Nationals. I was way too new to Autocrossing last year, and with work conflicts preventing me from racing this year, but I'm hoping for the "third time's a charm" motto will work for me to be able to race in 2018. I will have much more to report with next month's issue. Until then, I hope to see you all at the next Farm Show event, a few hours after I return from Lincoln! Keep it Classy Susquehanna - Melissa Mauro Note from the RE It's hard to believe that September is already right around the corner. This year has already had it's fair share of changes for Susquehanna Region, and today I've got two more quick announcements. As they say, I have good news, and I have bad news. Keep reading below for those bits of information. Board Update The Susquehanna Region is happy to announce that Kevin MacDonald has accepted the vacant position of Director to serve on the board for the remainder of the year. Kevin is filling the director role that was vacated by long-time board member Geoff Craig at the end of June. The position will come up for nominations and regular election again at the normal election period during the October and November membership meetings. Kevin has been an SCCA member since 2013, has been active with the Susquehanna autocross program and has equal experience attending other regions' autocross events. We look forward to his continued contributions as a board member. We've Lost one of Our own... With sorrow, I have to report that Murray W. (Sonny) Sperling Jr. passed away on Friday, July 21. For the younger members, that name likely isn't familiar. Sonny was a life-long car enthusiast and a charter member and past president of the Appalachian Sports Car Club (ASCC), organizer of the Hershey Hillclimb, a state hill climb champion and winner of a national go kart championship. ASCC became affiliated with Susquehanna Region SCCA in 1979, thus we've lost one of our own. The family requested that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers, and the region has made a donation in Sonny's name. Rallycross Fourth Event - Happening Today! As we speak, the 4th Rallycross event is taking place at Elmerton Lot. It's a great summer day, and I'm sure the Rallycrossers are all having tons of fun playing in the dirt! If you haven't gotten a chance to Rallycross yet this year, and you're still interested, you lucked out! There is a rain date, scheduled for November 18th. Don't let yourself miss out - make sure to sign up! Farm Show Recap & Next Event July 23rd's event was another great course, and another scorcher out in the sun! It was a fun and challenging course, with some minor mishaps along the way. From a minor wreck, (the first one in a very long time for this club), to leaking cars, we had issues to deal with that we don't normally run into at a typical event. These things could have all ruined our day, but everyone came together to help, which allowed the event to continue and progress forward smoothly. Special thanks to all of the core workers, chiefs and volunteers to bared the heat, and helped throughout the day. The results from our last event are below, along with the registration links for the upcoming September doubleheader at the Farm Show. The last doubleheader of 2017, so make sure you don't miss out! Check Out The Results from July 23rd Events Register for the September 10th Events Tire & Suspension Handling Video I came across this a few weeks ago, and I found it very interesting. It shows how our tires and suspension work together, and what happens when your race tires get "greasy". Click the graphic to check out the video from The Drive. News from SCCA SportsCar Feature: AUG 7 , 2017 — The wild kid of the SCCA family, RallyCross is more fun than you dare imagine – so why aren’t you doing it? RallyCross is everything your parents told you not to do. It’s kicking through fields, flinging mud, and holding on to the wheel hoping there’s traction. It’s fast action, and precise driving from start to finish. It’s also everything that traditionalists think SCCA isn’t: young, fun, and comparatively loose with the rules. Tire Rack ProSolo Regular Season Ends in Oscoda AUG 9, 2017 — The last Tire Rack ProSolo® on the schedule before next month’s Finale has come to an end in Oscoda, Michigan. The Detroit Region hosted the event in its usual fine fashion by providing an absolutely killer Friday night Welcome Party sponsored by GearHeadHomes.com. We've laid out some important information for you to get ready for the big show. Indianapolis Runoffs for Everyone! AUG 11, 2017 — The 54th annual SCCA® National Championship Runoffs are right around the corner.
