There will be two fun, family-friendly events at both sites. Bring the kids along to an exciting scavenger hunt and a hands on love your back yard workshop hosted by DOC, Toyota, Dunedin Amenities Society, LCT, AAPEs and the Dunedin Botanic Garden. Get up close to native birds at 10.30 am and see the Tuatara at 11.30am Orokonui Estuary restoration working beeOrokonui Estuary, Foyle st, Waitati Sunday 15 October 9.30am-12pm - Free Join a dedicated group of volunteers this Conservation Week at Orokonui Estuary to help with plant releasing and tackling persistent gorse on a couple of slopes on the south bank of the Waitati River in the estuary. Tools, gloves and morning tea are provided. Please bring water, sun/rain protection and robust shoes. It’s a beautiful place and we look forward to sharing it with you. Bird watching at the St Clair Prion FenceCarpark near 47 Highgrove, beside St Clair golf course Saturday 14 October, 8 pm sharp - Free To celebrate spring and Conservation Week, Forest & Bird is hosting an evening at the St Clair Prion Fence to watch the sooty shearwaters and prions come in for the evening. Access is steep and rough so your agility needs to be good. Boots, walking sticks, a dim torch and clothes for sitting out in the evening required. Help protect the TītīSandfly Bay carpark, Seal Point Road Saturday 20th October, 10 am sharp - Free Join Forest and Bird Dunedin branch this Conservation week to help protect the tītī, aka sooty shearwaters, aka mutton birds! Sandfly Bay has the second largest tītī colony on the peninsula and it needs protection from hungry predators through the breeding season. Be part of the trap pack and carry a trap box to the tītī nesting site. You will be in for a treat with fantastic views and a chance to get up and close with some pretty cool birds!
