The Shorter Days of Fall

Fall has set in and winter is around the corner and our days are just a little darker.

In this issue of eUPDATE we cover the Ontario Environment Commissioners report, and the elimination of that role by Premier Ford.  We also touch on a few new invasive species threats we all need to be aware of.

But more importantly we highlight what is being done to shine a little light on the issues.

Environment Commissioner Eliminated

The GBA joins others in calling for Premier Doug Ford to reconsider the elimination of this vital role. The ECO holds polluters to account, and preserves the rights of Ontario citizens under our Environmental Bill of Rights.

Foxconn plant in Wisconsin turning sour for the state

GBA has been monitoring this situation and liaising with local environmental groups who have launched a lawsuit regarding breach of the Great Lakes Compact (water withdrawal agreement) as part of their opposition.

Spiny Water Flea now in Muskoka Lakes

This invasive species has now spread from the Great Lakes into the Muskoka Lakes. This is one of the reasons why it is important for everyone to ‘Clean, Drain and Dry’ when moving a boat from one water body to another.
