From welcoming attendees to working as ambassadors at workshops and guiding our sustainability initiatives, volunteers are key to making sure the gears run smoothly at the festival. You’ll get some sweet Slow Food Nations team swag, plus our undying love and gratitude. You can choose to be a part of our Sustainability Team or our Event Team, whichever speaks to you! You’ll be in great company and highly appreciated on either team. As a volunteer, you will receive Slow Food Nations swag made specifically for volunteers. In some positions, you will be able to attend the event that you are supporting. For example, ambassadors/volunteers at workshops and talks will be in the room during the event to listen in and in some cases participate. Participate in a Taste of Slow Food NationsSlow Food wants to offer eaters a taste of the festivities and the philosophy during the month prior to the festival by asking our Slow Food chefs to create a Taste of Slow Food Nations in their restaurants. Participating restaurants showcase an Ark of Taste ingredient in a unique menu item for the month. We want to ensure that our communities, guests and customers know about Slow Food and that there’s a knockout Slow Food experience happening this summer, and we want Slow Food enthusiasts to know about great Slow Food restaurants around the country! A Taste of Slow Food Nations will run from June 19-July 19. Will you join us? Encourage them to join the superb bevy of makers at Slow Food Nations in Denver this July 20-21! The Taste Marketplace takes place in plain-air on Larimer Square, where merchants sample and sell their products to over 25k Slow Food enthusiasts over the course of the weekend. SLOW FOOD SPOTLIGHTWe are excited to welcome Keith Schildt as the newest Slow Food State Governor!Keith, the new SFUSA Governor for Southern California, is currently on the Board of Directors and is chair of the Policy Committee of Slow Food California. He is also the Chair of Slow Food Orange County. Keith’s day job is Professor of Public Administration and the Director of the Masters of Health Administration program at the University of La Verne’s College of Business & Public Management. Prior to academia, Keith was a city manager and held other positions in municipal government and also has worked in the restaurant industry including Executive Chef & Business Manager at a restaurant in the River North area of Chicago as well as stints as sous chef and line cook at restaurants, hotels, and country clubs in suburban Chicago as well as operating a catering business. Keith’s current research interests include urban food systems, urban farming policy, public health aspects of industrialized agriculture, and nutrition policy for an aging population. Besides tending his vegetable garden at home, he is thinking about raising chickens and a goat but his attempts at convincing his wife and son have thus far been highly unsuccessful. Embrace |
