The Association has highlighted bold ambitions to grow Australia’s global competitiveness, elevate the profile of business events through storytelling, and delivering reliable and irrefutable data to its stakeholders. Image: The AACB Board AACB Data InsightsOur latest market intelligence suggests that the in the 12 months to 30 September, the total number of bids won by AACB’s members has decreased by 10% compared to the previous year. However, a higher return on these bid wins will see total delegate days and direct delegate expenditure hold against the previous year, with a total of approximately $650m in anticipated delegate spend from these secured business events. New Assistant Minister for TourismThe Prime Minister announced his new Ministerial team on 19 December. The AACB welcomes the Hon Luke Hartsuyker MP moving into the role of Assistant Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment. We thank the Hon Keith Pitt MP for his support of the business events industry during his time in the role. Juliet Alabaster appointed Brisbane Convention Bureau GMJuliet Alabaster has been appointed General Manager of the Brisbane Convention Bureau, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience within the conventions and business events industry. The Bureau’s former General Manager, Rob Nelson has been appointed as Chief Operating Officer of Brisbane Marketing. NT launches new business events support fundingThe Northern Territory Government has launched a new funding scheme, to be administered by NT Convention Bureau. The Fund aims to assist the Territory business events sector to compete with rival destinations, by providing support funding assistance to organisers of qualified business events, including association and corporate meetings. ICCA International Meetings Seminar 18-19 FebruaryICCA Australia Committee and ICCA Asia Pacific Regional Office are pleased to present the International Meetings Seminar, taking place at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, from 18 – 19 February, prior to the Asia Pacific Incentives & Meetings Expo in Melbourne. The two-day seminar will feature educational sessions led by industry veterans. ABS: International Conference Arrivals Up 8%Australian Bureau of Statistics: Year-on-year comparison of visitors arriving to attend a convention/conference for the 12 months to November 2017 shows an overall increase of 8%. There were a total of 31,920 arrivals in November 2017 whose main purpose of coming to Australia was a convention/conference. This translates to a 6% increase from November 2016 (30,120).
