Guelph Tool Library's Good Call Program aims to collect 2000 used cell phones for refurbishment and recycling. Phones can be donated to the Guelph Public Library's Main Library during curbside hours or at one of the following locations: - The Guelph Tool Library – Old Quebec
Street Shoppes, 55 Wyndham St. N. Unit T8
- Meridian Credit Union – 200 Speedvale Ave West or 370 Stone Road West
- Planet Bean Downtown – 2 Wyndham Street North
- North End Harvest Market (Waverley Neighbourhood Group) – 140 Waverley Drive
- Hope House – 10 Cork Street East
- Home Group Realty – 5 Edinburgh Road South
- Original Home Furniture – 259-B Woodlawn Road West
Coordinator John Dennis writes, “Now, more than ever it is important for everyone to have access to a cell phone. So many appointments and opportunities are only offered virtually, and without that connection, people will miss out on vital support services and social inclusion.” Visit the Guelph Tool Library's website to learn more about the Good Call Program.
There's a Book for That!
Each month, Children's and Teen Librarian Ben will share children's books on the topics you ask about. Challenge us with your tough questions by emailing askus@guelphpl.ca. This month, Ben discusses and showcases graphic novels for young readers in the video below.
Montessori-based games and puzzles are great for children too!
Thanks to grants from the J.P. Bickell Foundation and the S.M. Blair Family Foundation, we have created a series of Cognitive Care Kits. These kits include materials that encourage the skills and abilities of people living with various stages of dementias. The Montessori-based games, puzzles, books and other activities help exercise the mind, trigger memories, and encourage social interaction. Their design helps support successful interactions independently, with a partner, or in a group.
Because they are Montessori-based, some of the puzzles and games are great learning opportunities for children as well, particularly during the provincial stay-at-home order. Search for cognitive care kit on our website to place your hold!
Teachers - Book a Virtual Class Visit with a Librarian
Our ever-popular summer reading club is back again starting June 15, 2021! Teachers - help us raise awareness about our free summer reading program by booking a virtual class visit with one of our Librarians.
The TD Summer Reading Club is Canada’s biggest, bilingual summer reading program for kids of all ages, interests and abilities. The Club celebrates Canadian authors, illustrators and stories, and inspires kids to explore the fun of reading their way. This is key to building a lifelong love of reading.
Thank you for helping us to promote our Summer Reading Club to kids at your school and for sharing the joy of reading!
