Signing ​attendees at the Musqueam Cultural Centre

The First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) and Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC) have celebrated renewal of their collective agreement after seven months of renegotiations. The renewal signing ceremony took place at the Musqueam Cultural Centre and included senior leadership and representatives from the FNHA and PIPSC. All negotiations for the agreement took place on First Nations land and included Elders supporting the work with prayer, wisdom and input.

World Hepatitis Day is on July 28th, so it's a great time to talk about chronic viral hepatitis – what it is, why you should get tested to find out if you have it, how you can protect yourself from getting it, and, if you do have it, where you can find information and resources for how to treat or manage it. 

Many people with chronic viral hepatitis, including Indigenous people in BC, don't know they have it. This means they're not getting the treatment they need and may be spreading it to others.

Wildfires and smoke are a normal part of summer in British Columbia, but our seasons seem to be getting longer and more extreme. We cannot accurately predict when big wildfires will occur, and we cannot eliminate smoke pollution, so the best approach is to prepare for a smoky summer before the wildfire season begins.

This month I attended the Wuikinuxv potlatch for the raising of the house front pole, Hosumdas, that my brother carved over the past two years with an apprentice and three other carvers. During the potlatch, I connected with relatives from Bella Bella and they narrated the progression of dances for me throughout the two days of Evelyn Walkus' family members receiving names and adopting others into the family.
