Note from the RE

Just a quick note from me to say thank you to all of you for giving me a reason to smile, and allowing me to look back at a really crappy year with some fun highlights.  In a year filled with panic, fear and separation, I am so grateful for the few weekends this year we were able to have fun.

I wish all of you a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a VERY Happy New Year that we all need and deserve!

Keep it Classy Susquehanna
Melissa Mauro

RallyCross Season Finale

By John Roscinski

Since we’ve wrapped up our 2020 RallyCross season, I’ve had some time to take a look back and assess things. While this year has challenged everyone for various reasons, we collectively have managed to adapt and improve the program. A lot of people graciously stepped up to help fill different needs to make sure everything ran smoothly and as close to normal as possible, if anyone can remember what normal consists of anymore...

Speaking of different, this year we hosted a charity event to benefit the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. This was a first for us and required some thinking outside of the box since we allowed competitors to purchase penalties and penalty-reversals during the non-points part of the day. Between what we raised with the charity event format and the penalty purchases, we were able to present the Food Bank with a check for $1,818.12! That’s a lot of dinero, and if I understood correctly and if my math is accurate, (these are big ifs) this is good for around two truckloads of food! Good job everyone!

As for next year? It’s hard to say what will actually happen, but we’re still looking to adapt and improve...

PS: Thank you to all the fine folks who stepped up and contributed this year, and thanks to all of our competitors!

After Autocross

By Jared McGahen

So you've done a few years of autocross. You like it, but you want more. More seat time, more speed, more rush. The natural progression would be to do a track day or time trial event. SCCA offers Track Night in America - the most inexpensive way to get onto a road course.  $160 gets you 3x 20 minute sessions on road courses throughout America. But a track night event isn't a race. It's not a competition. What if you want to compete against others? To see who can lay down the quickest lap? Then SCCA Time Trials might be what you're wanting. Hosted both nationally and by some local regions, SCCA time trial events offer those with some track experience the chance to drive on a track as fast as they can to see how quick of a lap they can lay down. Washington, DC Region SCCA offers a time trial series similar to autocross. They host them at Summit Point Motorsports Park and Dominion Raceway.  And currently the SCCA has posted their national tour dates and locations:

2021 Tire Rack SCCA Time Trials National Tour Powered by Hagerty:

March 13-14: Virginia International Raceway, Alton, VA
April 10-11: Buttonwillow Raceway Park, Buttonwillow, CA
May 22-23: Eagles Canyon Raceway, Decatur, TX
June 10-13: Tire Rack Time Trials Nationals, NCM Motorsports Park, Bowling Green, KY
July 3-4: Palmer Motorsports Park, Palmer, MA
July 17-18: GingerMan Raceway, South Haven, MI
July 24-25: Ridge Motorsports Park, Shelton, WA
November 6-7: Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, Braselton, GA (tentative)

Banquet Moved to March

In light of the limitations for indoor events, we've moved the date of the banquet to March 20, 2021, instead of its regularly scheduled January weekend.  It isn't fair, or much of a celebration, if we all can't be together, so that's why we've made the adjustment.

Keep your eyes out for emails and information from us in January and February regarding awards and registration!  We'll keep you posted as things progress.

Winter Racing

By Jared McGahen

If you're interested in winter racing, there are two more TrackCross events being hosted at Summit Point, January 10th and February 20th.

TrackCross is a short sprint on a smaller circuit. While not quite as long as a road course, it certainly has all the elements of a road course. Laps last around 60 seconds, and several Susquehanna region members have been making the trip down for the November and December events.

2020 in Review: Global Time Attack

DEC 11, 2020 —  The SCCA Pro Racing-sanctioned Global Time Attack persevered through the curveballs that 2020 tossed its way and completed a record-setting flying lap by any metric.
