Business Events Industry Welcomes New Ministry

Hon Steven Ciobo MP, Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment

 

Further recognition of the importance of the business events industry to the Australian economy is set to be one of the many benefits of the new federal ministry. The AACB said the formal acknowledgement of tourism alongside trade and investment responsibilities is a welcome move.

“The business events industry congratulates the Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, Hon Steven Ciobo MP, on his reappointment,” said AACB Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Hiebl. “The AACB also congratulates Hon Keith Pitt MP on his appointment as Assistant Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment.”

Penny Lion to Tourism Australia executive leadership

Penny Lion, Executive General Manager Events, Tourism Australia.

With Deputy CEO, Frances-Anne Keeler, to leave Tourism Australia at the end of August, the resulting restructure has propelled our industry’s representative, Penny Lion, into the executive leadership team.

Tourism Australia’s trade events team will now report to Penny as Executive General Manager of Events with responsibility for Business Events, Major Events and Trade Events. We thank Frances-Anne for her support of the business events sector over recent years and wish her well in her future endeavours.

2014/15 Innovation Award won by the Newcastle Convention Bureau with an Altogether Perfect presentation.

The AACB Hall of Fame award, generously sponsored by IMEX, was established in 2015 to acknowledge the Association’s 30th anniversary. Its purpose is to recognise individuals from or associated with Australian Convention Bureaux who have made significant contributions to the advancement of the business events industry, and to provide a historical narrative of the leaders who have grown and nurtured the industry to the present day.

Congratulations!! AACB is proud to announce Emma Perez of Business Events Cairns & Great Barrier Reef as the winner of the DMAI Prize for 2016.

Thanks to Qantas and Destination Marketing Association International, the scholarship enabled Emma to attend the Annual DMAI Convention in Minneapolis MN, USA.

Sebastian Gonzalez of Business Events Sydney was also recognised for his quality entry as this year’s runner-up.
