Shortland September Grants Newsletter
Welcome to the September edition of my Community Grants Newsletter. Here you will find many grants for many worthwhile causes. From volunteer grants to sports grants all with the emphasis on strengthening the community and being involved. Please note the closing date for the Shortland Stronger Communities grant programme below. We have $150,000 to spend. Schools also have a look at the HP Kidsfund. Shortland Stronger Communities Grant ProgrammeAmount: $2,500 - $20,000
Closing Date: EOI close 21 September 2018 5pm
Funding Provider: Australian Government
Purpose: To improve local community participation Expressions of interest are open for the Shortland Stronger Communities Programme with $150,000 available to fund small capital projects that improve local community participation and contribute to vibrant viable communities. In consultation with a community committee, we identify potential applicants and projects in the Shortland electorate and invite them to apply for a grant. To be eligible you must: - an incorporated not for profit organisation including incorporated associations, such as
- Sporting Clubs
- Police and Citizen Youth Clubs
- child care centres
- surf clubs
- local aged care bodies
- Parents and Citizens, Parents and Friends groups and equivalent bodies
- local rural fire service

Volunteer Grants Amount: $1,000 - $5,000
Closing Date: 18 September 2018
Funding Provider: Australian Government
Purpose: To provide organisations and community group’s small amounts of money that can be used to help volunteers The Volunteer Grants 2018 funding round will provide funding of between $1,000 and $5,000 to eligible individuals and not-for-profit community organisations. This funding is to be used to: - purchase eligible small equipment items for use by volunteers;
- contribute to volunteers’ fuel costs;
- assist with the costs of training courses;
- undertake background screening checks for volunteers and
- contribute to transport costs for volunteers with disability who are unable to drive;

Be Connected Program: Building digital skills grants Amount: $2,000 to $50,000
Closing Date: 28th September 2018
Funding Provider: Good Things Foundation
Purpose: Designed to help organisations support older people to gain digital skills, including new devices, broadband fees, or expenses for digital mentors and volunteers. As part of the Be Connected program, there are a range of grants available to community organisations in the Be Connected network to support older people in their communities to embrace digital. There are four different kinds of grants available: - Activation grants - $2,000
- Get Online Week 2018 Event grants - $1,500
- Building Digital Skills grants - $2,500 to $15,000
- Capacity Building grants - $50,000

Chain Valley Colliery/Lake Coal Community Fund Amount: $30,000
Closing Date: 15th September 2018
Funding Provider: Central Coast Council
Purpose: To provide funding for organisations to deliver projects that improve community infrastructure and services. Do you live or work in Summerland Point, Gwandalan, Chain Valley Bay or Mannering Park? Do you have a great idea that would help these communities? Up to $30,000 per project is available through the annual Chain Valley Colliery community funding program for projects that will improve community infrastructure and services. Community Sport infrastructureAmount: Up to $500,000
Closing Date: 14 September 2018
Funding Provider: Australian Government
Purpose: To improve local community sport infrastructure which will support greater community participation in sport and physical activity To be eligible for the Community Sport Infrastructure (CSI) grant, applicants must be one of the following Australian entity types AND have been operating for 12 months or longer: Three grant streams are available: - Stream 1 up to $50,000
- Stream 2 $50,001 to $200,000
- Stream 3 $200,001 to $500,000
Successful grants will support projects such as: - Upgrades to playing surfaces, including multi-sport upgrades and resurfacing that supports increased use;
- Building, expanding and/or upgrading change rooms, particularly for girls and women and officials’ areas
- External entry/exit accessible
amenities;
- Improved sports lighting and safety lighting, including installation of solar panels;
- Improvements to ground and court capacity that support increased use;
- Building, expanding and/or upgrading change rooms, particularly for girls and women
and officials’ areas
- Improvements to spectator amenities; and
- Internal/external amenity uplift.

Deafness Foundation Grants Program Amount: $50,000
Closing Date: 31 October 2018
Funding Provider: Deafness Foundation
Purpose: To fund projects that support the deaf and hard of hearing and which address one of the following. Deafness Foundation’s Strategic Priorities: - Expand Foundation’s role in minimizing the incidence of hearing loss;
- Enhance awareness of issues for people who are deaf or hard
of hearing;
- Strengthen and build partnerships and collaborative relationships;
- Support people with hearing loss;
- Serve Australia wide in all aspects of our
operations.

Heywire CompetitionAmount: Up to $10,000
Closing Date: 16 September, 2018
Funding Provider: Australian Broadcasting Corporation
Purpose: Heywire is about giving Australia a window on your life and/or your community Each year, the Heywire Competition winners attend the Heywire Regional Youth Summit to develop ideas to improve regional Australia for young people. Community organisations are invited to apply for grants of up to $10,000 from the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR) to make these ideas a reality. For more information: Click here
Infrastructure Grants ProgramAmount: $12.5 million
Closing Date: 24 September 2018.
Funding Provider: NSW Government
Purpose: To promote well-designed facilities and associated equipment that promote healthy lifestyle’s through participation in sport and recreation, enriching arts and cultural assets. The NSW Government offers grants to communities across NSW to support the building, renovation and fitout of infrastructure. Funding is available for: - arts and cultural infrastructure
- sport and recreation infrastructure and
- project’s that enhance facilities used to shelter communities and provide emergency services.
Infrastructure Grants are made possible through the NSW Government’s Clubgrants Category 3 Fund, which reinvests a contribution from the state’s registered clubs gaming machine profits back into community projects.

Kidsfund HPAmount: 50 grants of $10,000
Closing Date: 22 October 2018
Funding Provider: HP
Purpose: To create experiences that amaze through the technology that we create and to make a lasting impact on the communities that we serve. At HP, our mission is Recognising equal access to technology in the classroom as a prominent issue, we have launched HP Kids Fund, a half-a-million dollar program offering a total of fifty grants of $10,000. All school teachers and principals across Australia are eligible and can apply until 22 October 2018. Grants can be used towards the purchase of HP technology to encourage STEM learning and development in the classroom. HP hopes to inspire Australian educators to incorporate not only standard technologies such as
laptops into schools, but to make innovative and exciting technology a part of the learning process. - HP Kids Fund is offering fifty grants of $10,000 to be used towards the purchase of HP technology.
- All teachers and principals across Australia are invited to apply.
- HP Kids Fund runs four intakes throughout the year.
- Every runner-up will also receive a 6 months complimentary access to Code Camp World, an e-learning platform teaching kids how to code. This access can be used for the entire school.

Lake Macquarie City Council Sponsorship ProgramAmount: up to $20,000
Closing Date: 20 December 2018
Funding Provider: Lake Macquarie City Council
Purpose: To provide financial assistance to community groups and organisations who add social, economic or environmental benefits to our City. NSW 2018 Grandparents Day Photography Competition is now open!Amount: Between $30,000 and $60,000 in three annual grant rounds
Closing Date: 14 September 2018
Funding Provider: NSW Government
Purpose: To celebrate older people and their contributions, while encouraging connections between generations. We’re calling on grandparents and grandchildren of all ages to get involved in the NSW Grandparents Day Photography Competition. The theme for this year’s competition is ‘intergenerational’. It’s open to all residents of NSW, young and old. There are two categories: - Open: open to all
community members (NSW residents)
- School: specifically for school-aged entrants in NSW, from Kindergarten to Year 12.

National Education Encouragement AwardsAmount: $3,000
Closing Date: 31 October 2018.
Funding Provider: Deafness Foundation
Purpose: To recognise the challenges experienced by students who are deaf or hard of hearing in their effort to access and complete education and training. It is envisaged that these awards will significantly facilitate the students’ ability to complete future study. There will be three Awards made nationally in each of the Categories – Secondary and Post-Secondary. There will be 3 awards for students who will be student at Secondary level in 2019 valued at $2,000 each and a further 3 awards for students who will be studying at Post-Secondary level in 2019 valued at $3,000 each. NSW/ACT Young Achiever AwardsAmount: Category winners will each receive $1,000 cash and a $1,000 Bartercard account plus a trophy.

Funding Provider: NSW Government
Purpose: To provide infrastructure and equipment to food relief agencies to safely collect and redistribute surplus food to people in need. The purpose of the Seven News Young Achiever Awards is to acknowledge, encourage and most importantly promote the positive achievements of all young people in NSW & the ACT up to and including 29 years of age as of 31st December each year. There are two ways that you can enter a young person into the Awards. - You can complete a full submission using the online form or
- You provide the contact details for you and the person you want to nominate…and we do the rest! We’ll contact your person and help them complete the nomination process.

Safer Communities Fund Round 3 - Infrastructure GrantsAmount: up to $1 million
Closing Date: 25 September 2018
Funding Provider: Australian Government
Purpose: Provides local councils and community organisations with grants for security infrastructure activities to address crime and anti-social behaviour in public or community spaces. Applicants must have an ABN and be one of the following: - an incorporated not for profit organisation
- a local government agency or body
Project activities can include: - installation of fixed or mobile CCTV cameras
- installation of security lighting
- installation of bollards
- installation of security and alarm systems, intercoms and swipe access attached to a public or community space
- crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED) including changing environmental characteristics in public or community spaces, such as a lack of lighting or poor natural surveillance, that can facilitate street crime and violence.

Sisters of Charity Community Grants ProgramAmount: up to $10,000
Closing Date: 30 September 2018
Funding Provider: Sisters of Charity Foundation
Purpose: Providing charity grants of up to $10,000 to organisations using clever ways to fight poverty, loneliness, suffering and oppression, but struggle to find funding. They deliver practical, real world support to smaller “grass-roots” organisations that can’t find help from more traditional sources. For more information: Click here
Sponsorship Grants for Student Science Engagement and International CompetitionsAmount: $1,000 to $20,000
Closing Date: 18 September 2018.
Funding Provider: Australian Government
Purpose: To sponsor eligible students to participate in conferences, competitions and other science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) related events. At a minimum, you must have an ABN and be one of the following: - a primary or secondary school, registered with a state or territory authority
- an incorporated not for profit organisation
- an entity incorporated in Australia.

St George Foundation Community GrantsAmount: $50,000
Closing Date: 28 September 2018.
Funding Provider: St George Foundation
Purpose: To invest in projects that will improve the lives of children in Australia who are physically, socially or economically disadvantaged. The program partners with small community organisations who attract little funding from government and who aren’t big enough to generate significant fundraising income on their own. - Early intervention services
- Educational equipment and assistance
- Youth workers
- Recreational and respite programs
- Counselling and therapy

Variety Heart Community GrantAmount: $3,000
Closing Date: 30 September 2018.
Funding Provider: Deafness Foundation
Purpose: To provide scholarships to students Variety NSW/ACT promotes inclusivity for all Aussie kids! Schools and Organisations are invited to apply for a grant which will go towards the purchase of equipment that will promote all access and inclusivity in the community for children aged 0-18 years from financial disadvantage, geographic isolation and/or living with a disability or chronic illness. Eligibility: - School or Organisation must be based and operating in NSW or ACT
- School or Organisation must directly service children aged 0-18 years in one or more of the following areas
- Financial disadvantage
- Geographic isolation
- Disabilities
- Chronic Illness.
