HDI's "Employment for Youth with Disabilities: Seeing a Brighter Future" Seminar

Join us in person or online for our Spring Seminar Under the Stars on Thursday, March 21, 2019 from 6:30 – 8:30pm ET to learn more about “Employment for Youth with Disabilities: Seeing a Brighter Future.”

Learn more from experts Stella Beard, Harold Kleinert, Stephanie Meredith, and our youth panel including, Clay Carroll, Megan McCormick, and Andy Meredith. The seminar will be held at the UK Coldstream Research Campus Human Development Institute Training Room 1525 Bull Lea Road, Lexington KY. A link to the live video stream of the seminar will be sent to registrants.

KentuckyWorks held Community Conversation in Louisville

Self-advocates, families, and professionals gathered for a community conversation to discuss employment opportunities for individuals with significant disabilities on Monday, December 4th at Down Syndrome of Louisville. The event was facilitated by KentuckyWorks and had three co-sponsors—Down Syndrome of Louisville, the Kentucky Autism Training Center, and the Center for Accessible Living—the most co-sponsorship of any community conversation thus far.

HB144 Employment Subcommittee

Kentucky’s Commission on Services and Supports for Individuals with Intellectual and Other Developmental Disabilities (also known as HB 144 Commission) advises the Governor and General Assembly about the service system that impacts the lives of people with disabilities. A sub-committee of the HB 144 commission was established to address issues impacting employment for persons with developmental disabilities. Comprised of members representing state agencies, service providers, advocacy agencies, lawmakers and people with developmental disabilities, the committee has set out to identify what must occur to create an efficient employment system that is supportive of people with developmental disabilities obtaining meaningful employment in the Commonwealth.

Kentucky Employment First Council Establishes Sub-Committees

To improve the likelihood of successful Employment First outcomes, the Department for Behavioral Health, the Division of Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities, HDI, the Department of Education, and the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation successfully obtained an Employment First State Leadership Mentoring Program technical assistance grant to assist with the implementation of our Employment First activities. This grant, through the Office on Disability Employment Policy, will provide help in planning and coordinating efforts across agencies and organizations.

The Council has established several sub-committees to help in fulfilling the Executive Order.  The sub-committees are:

  • Advocacy – People with Disabilities, Families, and Others
  • Employer Education and Engagement
  • Providers of Disability Services and Supports
  • Transition Education and Planning
  • Transportation
