Moritz Grossmann presents the Pure Classic Finish, the ATUM Pure, and the TEFNUT Pure

Two new manufacture calibres with the Pure Classic Finish debut at Baselworld

Founded in 2008, the manufacture is dedicated to the aesthetics and functionality of precision instruments crafted in Glashütte in the 19th century. Moritz Grossmann's ideas remain inspiring to this very day. His essay "On the construction of a simple but mechanically perfected watch" still reflects the zeitgeist of our era.

Pure-Classic-Finish

The Pure Classic Finish is another historic facet that Grossmann is bringing to life: Moritz Grossmann applied various finishes to his chronograph movements, thus changing their looks. In highly diverse variations, they also reflect different concepts. Grossmann is now pursuing this tradition with a second finissage approach: The Pure Classic Finish focuses on horological details in design and craftsmanship. It concentrates on function and on the aesthetic appeal of materials. Two specially conceived manufacture calibres stand out in the new steel versions of the ATUM and TEFNUT model families. Combining cool steel and puristic reduction, the ATUM Pure, the ATUM Pure M, and the TEFNUT Pure embody Grossmann's philosophy in perfection: pure watchmaking artistry
since 1854.

The ATUM Pure in a tough steel case

From the outside, the ATUM Pure is nearly unchanged. The steel case underscores the technical nature of the model family. Its dial is endowed with a fine brushed texture and is lacquered in white, grey, or blue. Burnished chamfers on the seconds dial and along the applied markers amplify the sporty nature of the watch. With their straight edges and broad chamfers, the lancet-shaped hands match the marker style. They are hand sculpted from stainless steel, a modern material that retains its toughness after tempering. After their openings are filled with white "Hy-Ceram", the hands are meticulously polished to attain their final look.

A heart of pure watchmaking artistry

A glance through the display back reveals the calibre 201.0 with the Pure Classic Finish. It was specially designed to be cased in stainless steel. The German silver plates are shot-peened with glass beads for enhanced aesthetic appeal. Shot peening matts the surface, making it highly sensitive. Great care must be taken in the assembly phase for this reason. The white sapphire bearing jewels, a Grossmann hallmark, are pressed directly into the plate. The movement screws are polished flat and retain their original steel hue.

The calibre 201.0 movement embodies some of the manufacture's most prominent proprietary developments such as the Grossmann balance, the modified Glashütte stopwork, and the Grossman manual winder with pusher. The characteristic Grossmann balance is paired with a hand-shaped flat hairspring that has two bends. Because the curb pin remains free, the adjuster curve can be accurately centred. Design modifications make it possible to adjust beat and rate separately without removing the oscillator. For this purpose, Grossmann's watchmakers positioned the rotatable stud holder in the balance cock such that it can be conveniently blocked. There is absolutely no play between the index adjuster, the stud holder, and the upper balance bearing. This allows the ATUM Pure to be precisely adjusted at any time.

Versions

The ATUM Pure comes with white, grey, and blue dials. All three versions are limited 150-watch Editions.

Moritz Grossmann presents the see-through dial and the ATUM Pure M

The more newcomer to the ATUM model family for Baselworld melds steel, the Pure Classic Finish, and translucency.

The ATUM Pure M is the most prominent of the debuts showcased at Baselworld 2016. It unites three new features presented by the Grossmann manufacture: the version in steel, the specially conceived calibre 201.0 with the Pure Classic Finish, and the translucent dial with an insert composed of thin woven steel filaments.

The letter "M" stands for mesh, a steel fabric. In contemporary architecture, mesh façades express transparency and lightness. They expose the structure and the life inside it. The dial insert of the ATUM Pure M reveals pure watchmaking artistry from the front side as well. Among other elements, it offers a glance at the Grossmann manual winder with pusher. The stainless steel and black oxidised steel case versions each come in limited 50-watch Editions.

A revelation of pure watchmaking artistry

In the ATUM Pure M, puristic form and precise function harmonise with the cool and modern appeal of steel. The very slender bezel is a striking element of the case design. Positioned adjacent to the crown, the pusher is a telltale sign of the proprietary Grossmann winder.

The face of the watch is significantly different: its translucent centre lets the calibre 201.0 shimmer through. Grossmann's designers conceived the dial. It is composed of six parts crafted on site in the manufacture. The crisp minute and seconds markers on the scale are a hallmark of the ATUM. Eight prominent hour markers are sculpted out of the minute ring. The hour ring features the numerals 9, 12, and 3 in a contemporary typography style. Light enters through the mesh dial insert, bringing out details of the heart of the watch. The seconds subdial, the logo bridge, and the hand bushings round out the elaborately designed dial. Both lancet-shaped hands are manually crafted from stainless steel and like the hour markers are filled with white "Hy-Ceram".

The restyled face of the TEFNUT Pure

The TEFNUT model family is characterised by its particularly slender and flat case as well as by a face of understated beauty. In the steel version, Grossmann emphasises discreetly casual looks. The design of the TEFNUT Pure was coordinated with the case colour by introducing subtle changes. In the two-part dial, the surround stands out against the recessed portion with a ground flange and a polished chamfer on the inner circumference. Like all Grossmann watches, manually sculpted hands are a must for the steel versions as well. They are made of modern stainless steel and polished to a mirror gloss to match the appliques.

The calibre 202.0 with the Pure Classic Finish

The calibre 202.0 movement is based on the calibre 102.0, which for this model family was totally reworked to achieve a new, flat silhouette. Its concentrated radiance is also leveraged in the TEFNUT Pure. The surfaces of the German silver plates are shot-peened with glass beads. The typical white sapphires glow in the deep chamfers of the prominent 3/5 plate. Steel-hued, flat-polished movement screws complement the monochrome appearance. The characteristic Grossmann balance takes centre stage.

Versions

The TEFNUT Pure comes with argenté and charcoal dials and with a stainless steel case or stainless steel DLC dianoir case. All versions are limited 150-watch editions.

Dubai Polo Gold Cup

The Finals

The finals of the DUBAI POLO GOLD CUP SERIES took place on 11 March 2016 at the Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club on the Arabian Ranches grounds. Alongside principal sponsor Julius Baer, Grossmann Uhren supported the finals as Official Timekeeper and donated an ATUM — with the special hand-engraved inscription „DPCG 2016“ in the case — to each member of the winning team. The Team UAE Polo won the tournament. Her Highness Shaikha Maitha bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is the captain of the team that also includes Jack Hyde, Mathias Benoit, and Lukas Monteverde. She is the daughter of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Shaikha Maitha has an impressive track record in the domain of martial arts. She represented the United Arab Emirates in the taekwondo category at the Olympic Games in Beijing and won the silver medal in karate at the 2006 Asian Games.

Prior to and after the finals, the watches and the other winner’s trophies were presented to the spectators. Christine Hutter, the founder and CEO of Grossmann Uhren GmbH, handed the watches over to the members of the winning team during the festive awards ceremony.

The Moritz Grossmann manufacture showcased its entire collection during the finals and was delighted to note the keen interest among visitors in the timepieces from Saxony.
