Alongside Jacqui and Larry (College Administrators), Mark (College Wellbeing Officer), Jane (College Life Coordinator) and Natasha and Xinide our College Life Advisors, we work together to make sure that every student in Halifax feels welcome in their new community and is able to make the most of their time at University. The University has ten colleges and you are a college member of Halifax. You may be living on campus in Halifax or off-campus and you chose or were assigned to Halifax because it is close to your academic department. Whatever the reason, we are very happy to welcome you. We have organised an online induction in advance of your arrival, so that you have an opportunity to find out more about what it will be like when you arrive. Take a look at our website and join our official Facebook and Instagram pages to find out more about the college and what’s planned for when you arrive. Wentworth College and The GSAAs a postgraduate, you will also have full access to all the events and activities hosted by Wentworth College, which is the only college purely dedicated to the graduate student experience. You’ll also be a member of our Graduate Student Association (GSA), the primary representative body for all registered postgraduate students at York. We encourage you to make use of their services and take part in their variety of regular postgraduate events and activities. Online InductionCompleting the online induction is a great place to start your university journey. York prides itself on being a community built on respect, and this induction explains more about the community you will be joining and our values. It is packed with useful information and resources to support you through your first few weeks. Pre-arrival SurveyWe are keen to hear from you. Please complete our pre-arrival survey and share with us your interests and ambitions or feel free to ask a question. Arrivals (if living on campus)Postgraduate students living on campus can arrive into college from Monday 20th September. The Accommodation Team will be in touch with you early next week with confirmation of your room number. Once you’ve arrived, there will be planned welcome events and activities providing opportunities to meet other new students and join campus and city tours. We know that not all of our international students will be able to get here for their contract start dates due to travel restrictions. We will be extending our welcome events throughout October to allow for this and more information will be shared with everyone on these soon. Please note, students will not be able to access University accommodation until their confirmed contract start date, except by specific arrangement with our student support team because of an additional support need, or in exceptional circumstances agreed with our accommodation team. Please ensure you plan to arrive on or after this date. Welcome and OrientationPostgraduate Welcome activities start on 20 September. It is an important part of the year and we encourage you to take part. Wentworth College and the Graduate Students' Association (GSA) have planned in-person and online events and activities providing safe opportunities to meet other postgraduates.
