Join the Guelph Public Library's Annual campaign today! #LibrariesMatter
Please support the Rosa Rattray Early Literacy fund. Rosa's love of reading started at an early age and quickly become her lifelong passion.

We can build a thriving community. Created Together.
This is a very exciting chapter in the library’s history. And that’s why we need your help.
We are seeking the community’s support to make our annual campaign a continued success.

We’re asking for your help to build the future of our library and community. Gifts will support two priority areas - a new Central Library and the Rosa Rattray Early Literacy Fund – fostering lifelong learning right from the beginning and improving community vitality for generations to come.

“As a community, we have a responsibility to nurture lifelong learning through all stages of life. This is one of the many roles of the library. By supporting this campaign, we are showing that Libraries Matter, and that our community is willing to invest in a vibrant Guelph now and into the future,” says Library CEO Steven Kraft.

The library is honoured to once again partner with the Rosa Rattray Early Literacy Fund which supports early literacy initiatives at the library. The campaign will also support a new Central Library. Library staff and the City continue to work together on the Baker District redevelopment project to build a new Central Library – a much needed community resource for many. Thanks to the generosity and enthusiasm of our supporters, we’re closer than ever – and with your help, the possibilities are infinite. This new space will meet the future needs of Guelphites – including larger collections, greater accessibility, and enhanced special use spaces, creating a modern 21st century library appropriate for a growing Guelph.

Your gift will generate the most spectacular return on investment we can ask for – a future with new discoveries and opportunities ignited by a place that ensures endless access to ways for people to explore their world, enrich their lives, and connect with their community. Benefits that will be felt across the entire city.

It’s Guelph’s story, re-imagined, and revitalized. Make your tax-deductible gift today.

From the Archives: Canadiana Online
By Library Archivist, Darcy Hiltz
One of the roles of an Archivist and Librarian is to help connect people to good resources available in print or online. For anyone interested in Canadian history, a good online resource to check out is Canadiana Online. Of particular interest to Guelph residents is a collection of early Guelph newspapers that can be viewed online, such as the Guelph Evening Mercury. Newspapers can provide a wealth of information about people and events.

Other digital materials that may be of interest are parliamentary and municipal lists of voters over the years. Combined with Guelph city directories and assessment rolls, such lists serve as confirmations of where your ancestors lived. These documents can help fill in the gaps about your ancestors.

Library tip: When using this online resource, be sure to review the search tips provided so you can get the most out of your search.

Older Adults Helping to Make a Better World:
17 Sustainable Development Goals

Many of us believe that we have tipped not into just climate change, but into climate crisis. Just as the younger generation has received a heightened profile around the world, older adults have also stepped up to be part of the solution and significantly contribute to sustainable development goals (SDGs). United Nations Member States adopted the Sustainable Development Agenda as a blueprint for prosperity for all while protecting the planet. The 17 sustainable development goals are an urgent call to action, and seniors are valuable assets who can use their experience, skills and knowledge to assist our world in crisis.
