Eight Years of Harm

In August 2012, the Australian government decided to incarcerate in off-shore detention anyone coming to Australia by boat seeking asylum. In 2013, the government declared that none of these asylum seekers would ever be re-settled in Australia, regardless of their refugee status. That was eight years ago.

UCA Child Safe Program

A national Child Safe Program will soon be available online. The program will consist of a number of modules that will be released as they are developed. The first one is a basic overview of how to be a a child safe community and is an introduction for all leaders and volunteers within the church.

Spotlight

The month of August encompasses Dying to Know Day, a national campaign which aims to encourage discussions around death, dying and bereavement. Through meaningful conversations, one can build a greater understanding of death enabling the fear associated with the topic to diminish.

Safe Church Audit

Thanks to the 80+ congregations who have responded so far to the Safe Church Audit. All congregations are invited to respond to the current survey which helps to measure the awareness and safe practices in the Synod of South Australia. The closing date for survey responses is 26th July 2021.

Event highlight

The One Great Sunday of Sharing event will be held on Sunday, 18th July, 2021. All congregations are invited to view a three minute video during worship services. Both Worship Resources and the video are available from the Synod website and via YouTube.

The Thriving in Ministry event is an opportunity to discover faith and wellness, nutrition and movement, and how to better manage stress and sleep! On Saturday 24th of July from 9:30am - 1:00pm – it includes take home resources, morning tea and free parking. $20 per person and bookings are essential.

Prayer Points

This week we pray for:

  • For countries and communities where COVID-19 continues to spread
  • For the people of Afghanistan as they come to terms with more political upheaval and the potential for increased conflict and violence
  • For all people working to bring support, food and assistance in disadvantaged communities and countries – may they be able to minister in safety.

 


Reflection of the week

Paul must have lifted the spirits of the Church of Ephesus with this letter to the Ephesians 1:3-14! His words were rich in meaning. All are included as God’s children in God’s realm - a space of belonging for all men, women and children of all cultures and ages.
