I pray, daily, that my cheerful heart up lifts me, and brings joy to everyone around me. In Jesus Christ's name... Amen TERM 1 WEEK 3 - 19 FEBRUARY 2020 PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGEDear Parents, Thank you to the many parents who attended our Parent Information Session last week. At the initial MPA gathering we launched our Vision for Learning developed through the scripture; ‘I have come that they may have life and have it to the full’, John 10:10. Last year staff spent many hours understanding the context of this quote, before deciding that when we are open to achieve all that God intends for us we are living life to the full. (Living life to the full doesn’t mean instant gratification for everything we wish to have!) Living life to the full is something we desire for all students in our school. We are fortunate to have the charism of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth as part of our school culture. This charism calls us to seek God in the everyday and to have special consideration for families, modelled on the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. With such strong tradition and history we are well placed to step into a more contemporary way of teaching and learning. The Vision for Learning sets out not only the ‘Why’ of our teaching and learning but also the ‘How’. The Five Teacher Practices will help us achieve our goals, it is a model to help focus our improvement journey and to enable all teachers to hone and expand their professional craft. We are truly blessed with the expertise of our staff and it was a pleasure to introduce our new staff to the community on Wednesday. As outlined in a letter to parents, earlier this year, our previously delayed Annual General Meeting will be held this Thursday in ‘The Hive’. The evening will include the launch of the Strategic Plan 2020 – 2023, Principal Report, School Board Report and elections as well as Parents and Friends Report and elections. Thank you to those parents who have nominated for positions on the School Board and the Parents and Friends Executive. Please join us at 6.30pm this Thursday. Our first Parents and Friends event is this Friday evening starting at 5pm on the school lawn. The welcome back picnic is a lovely way for us to gather as a community and welcome those new to our school. We have many new students and families joining us this year. The OLG school and Parish community has a significant role to play in creating a respectful and loving community. Please go out of your way to welcome those new to the school and to say “Hi” to the dedicated staff who will join us on Friday evening. Thank you to our P&F for the organization of this event. When you live, work and learn in a community the safety and care of all members of that community is a shared responsibility. The safety of our students is a priority and there are many examples of parents and grandparents modelling courtesy and manners as they attend the school grounds and use the shared community facilities of roads and car parks. Some safety issues have arisen recently and it’s probably a good time to outline the expectations we should have of each other. Please; · Use Kiss and Ride appropriately without jumping the cue, using Parish parking
or putting children’s safety at risk by dropping them off ‘near’ the designated place. As always I am grateful for the many parents, grandparents, carers, staff and children who greet myself and each other as they enter our beautiful school grounds. Small actions go such a long way to helping each of us ‘live life to the full.’ God Bless.
