In-House and Government Lawyers CommitteeThe Law Society’s In-House and Government Lawyers Committee would like to hear from in-house and government practitioners interested in joining the Committee. The Committee assists the Law Society in representing, engaging and connecting members of the profession working as in-house counsel, and discusses ongoing issues such as the uniform law, networking with other in-house and government organisations, the implications of budget cuts to government agencies, and mental health initiatives. Law Council UpdateThe Law Council of Australia's Update of 5 March outlines that its Justice Project Report has been noted as a major catalyst for boosts to legal assistance funding proposed by the Federal Opposition. The Law Council has also this week highlighted the dire state of legal assistance funding in Australia in a 2019-20 Pre-Budget Submission, with a boost of at least $310 million a year required to address critical gaps in the system.
