Facility Spotlight: The Subtitle C Landfill
This month we kick off our "Facility Spotlight Series" in which we will profile one of our facilities to give you a better idea of some of the services Heritage can provide. (Having trouble viewing this email? View it in your browser).
The Heritage Subtitle C Landfill is a RCRA (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act) Hazardous Waste Landfill. Hazardous wastestreams and their residues or solids are deposited into secure RCRA landfills. Secure RCRA landfills differ from municipal or sanitary landfills, which are intended for household and nonhazardous waste. Unlike most landfills, secure RCRA landfills are designed for the safe disposal of hazardous waste.
Secure landfill waste is strictly limited to waste that meets all treatment standards as described in the Land Disposal Restrictions (LDRs). Examples of this waste are drummed and bulk solids, pretreated sludges and incinerator ash. Waste that does not meet LDR standards must be physically and/or chemically treated prior to disposal.

What is Household Hazardous Waste?
You may have heard or seen the acronym, "HHW" before and wondered it stands for. Well, quite simply, it stands for Household Hazardous Waste. Any post-consumer products that contain toxic, ignitable, corrosive or reactive components are considered hazardous waste when discarded.
Some common examples are products such as paints, oils, batteries, pesticides and cleaning liquids. However, there are many more items around your house that contain potentially hazardous ingredients that you might not be familiar with.
